People have opened up the center mounted brake lamp assembly but then again some have ruined/destroyed it as well. Good you want to see if you can DIY because it is expensive to send it out (IF you send it out, make SURE you pack it with a lot of packing & insure it because if destroyed by shipping, they are very expensive to replace). I know of one members post where shipping broke the assembly and it was not covered enough. Good luck either way!
