If it is cranking but not starting it can be the camshaft position sensor not the CPS and possibly the starter. You need to check for codes and diagnose the car properly.
RCM is usually no start at all and radiator fan running on high speed.
The code reader arrived the other day (iCarSoft) and seemed to work. Code returned was P0335 CPS sensor circuit A, as expected, but I fully agree that the proper order is to read the code first, and only then grab the tools. Now I was like a charlatan doctor removing an appendix for sheer exercise just because the patient complains about abdominal pain.
