Made a bit of a boo boo!

Changed the pads on one side then looked in the bottom of the box of new pads and realised the back metal shims were seperate in a plastic bag! Added the shims to the second side. Wondered what is the purpose of the metal shims and whether I need to redo the first set of pads and add them?
