As far as the cable I've been using penetrating oil on both ends ,tape a cotton ball on both ends and soak it with lube it seems to eventually creep into the cable. I have no trust in lithium grease, it just sits there. Grease is at its best when it is physically placed between the moving parts. I use light machine oil on the latch, hinges etc. as it flows into gaps. Engine oil around SAE 30 or 40 would be fine.
