Really sorry that my explanation seems to be wasting your time. AS to the other comment about not getting back about a solution, my one year old battery was trashed. Replaced it under warranty and everything is back to normal. I should remember to KISS. Keep it simple stupid. Thanks for all your help and comments.
I'm glad to hear that it was only a bad battery. It could have been a hell of a lot more expensive!
