I installed a new blower motor and resistor yesterday because the previous motor failed after the passenger compartment floor flooded due to blocked cowl drains. When I pulled the fan cover down, about a cup of water poured out. Here is what I did:
1. I dried everything off and used computer cleaner canned air to blow everything inside the blower motor housing dry and clean.
2. I cleaned the power plug with CRC Electronics Cleaner and applied dielectric grease to everything before reassembly.
3. After reinstalling the new fan and resistor, I plugged in the power and tested the fan.
It worked fine. I was able to adjust the fan speed using the speed control on the HVAC control module. However, the fan speed worked intermittently like these all do before making the changes recommended by
CL770.
(still working on that).
The A/C worked great and the car started to cool down immediately. I turn the car off, disconnected the fan power plug, and replaced the fan cover.
4. I reconnected the power plug and tested everything again. Everything worked like before.
TODAY, 18 hours later, I fired the car up and found the following:
1. The blower motor came on as soon as I turned the key but before the car had started.
2. The blower motor started on the highest setting and could not be adjusted by using the HVAC controls.
3.
The A/C DID NOT come on .
4. The red A/C light was on when I turned the key and it STAYED ON when I turned the car off and removed the key.
5. The Air Recirculation/REST light would not come on.
6.
The blower motor would not turn off EVEN WHEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND REMOVED THE KEY.
WHAT HAVE I DONE AND WHAT IS HAPPENING?
