If you physically disconnect the battery, I recommend disconnecting the negative terminal from the car. Disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery eliminates the chances of an accidental spark from the positive terminal touching any metal parts of the car. If your battery is in good shape and physically disconnected from the car, the battery should hold a charge for several months and you shouldn't require a jump from another battery or car. Still, it is a good idea to carry jumper cables in a car that is parked for a long time. Good luck!
