2005 Crossfire SRT-6 Coupe.

Little history:

Car left us on the side of the road last summer, cut off, would turn over, but not start. After reading a lot of posts on this forum we did the RCM relay replacement of the fuel relay and re-soldered the three contacts on the RCM. This fixed the issue, at least for awhile....lol

So about a week ago we get the following symptoms:

1. Leaving the driveway the car cutoff and would not turn over. BTW...it was blocking my whole driveway...that sucked.
2. The automatic would not shift out of Park.
3. Manually engaging the release on the shifter allowed us to move the shifter to neutral. Would still not turn over but allowed us to push the car up to the garage.
4. The shift indicator was completely black (rectangle). Rest of the lights on the dash looked like a Christmass tree! All lit up!
5. No brake lights when engaging the brake.
6. OBDII scanner gave a P0600 code, Serial Communication Failure

What we did to troubleshoot:

1. Checked fuses in car and in engine compartment. No bad fuses.
2. Checked brake relay in engine compartment. Seemed OK but ordered replacement: Standard Motor Products RY-1091 Wiper Motor Control Relay
3. Replaced brake relay in engine compartment.
4. Checked camshaft and crankshaft sensors for good connections (we had replaced both of these last time it failed to start in the summer).
5. Took lower dash apart and tested brake switch. Seemed OK but ordered replacement (concerned could be worn contact inside causing intermittent failure): URO Parts 0015456409 Brake Light Switch
6. Replaced brake switch.

After doing the above and getting no joy we decided to check the connections on the RCM and PCM (fuses also). Everything seemed OK.
Just to make sure though we took the RCM apart again. This is what we found on the relay we replaced:

Rust? Is condensation forming in the RCM?

Needless to say this did not provide us a lot of confidence in the RCM. Instead of replacing the relay and testing the others we decided just to order another RCM: Standard Motor Products RY-1562 Relay

So after all that we popped in the new RCM and guess what: she started right up, no black rectangle anymore but replaced with a P and she would shift in and out of D, N , etc.

Don't ask me to explain why because I never thought all those symptoms would lead us back to the RCM....I was really afraid it was the Skreem or worse.

So in closing, I hope this information helps someone and I wanted to say thank you to everyone that posts here trying to help others. What a great group of fellow Crossfire lovers...safe driving folks!
