That spring is what pulls the lever back into lock position after the length adjustment.
This repair is not an easy one
Disconnect battery. Remove all plastics to access the top column bolts. unbolt the column from the top 2 bolts. Remove nuts from studs under the dash 2 10mm nuts. This will allow the column to drop down and you will have access to the spring location and repair.
Top column bolts 13mm
Rear column studs 10mm nuts.
Cable on top attaches to the spring
Repair access granted 🤣
