My father raised his right hand at an enlistment center 2 weeks after Pearl Harbor, where he served in Italy with an Army Air Force Photo Recon Unit that moved numerous times as the war progressed northward. Discharged in October of 1945 at Fort Dix. My mom and dad both passed, their ashes being with my sister in Georgia. who lives just down the road from a National Veterans Cemetary in Canton, where she made all the necessary paperwork required for burial.
it all came together last week, just 3 days after Memorial Day with a Chaplin leading the Service in the Chapel. The Chaplins talk, the unfurling and folding of the Flag by the Military, the Presentation of the Flag……were all part of a beautiful Thursday morning service. Later that afternoon, we found the temporary grave marker where their ashes are now
buried.
a granite stone with his name on one side, and my mother on the other will be added in August.
