Re: Craigslist Response on brake pad installation
Too bad you are not down here because I know of two that would do it in a heart beat! Parts are parts, regardless of who orders them! That schmuck would have probably ordered the same pads based on your request and then charged you more to make a profit!!! Hence is dumb comment...
I'm lucky down here - we have so many European cars that we have tons of body shops & mechanics that actually advertise the services they offer on many cars. But in saying that, I know of two that I would go to.
I have a mechanic across the street from me told me that if I supplied him parts and instructions, that he'd do it for me (I talked to him after your problems trying to find someone in your area). In talking some more, he told me that eventually there will not be many mechanics that will know how to work on these cars as they slowly go away and that he'd love to be known as one that does (preferred Crossfire mechanic status?).
I also have a European Motors shop in Tampa that offers this service, too. Plus, they are a preferred Crossfire tire installation location. This shop happens to also be where players of the Tampa Bay Buccs go to when they want mods done to their BMW's, Mercedes, Porsches, etc... and when he realized that my engine is a Mercedes SLK, he made sure to let me know that he would gladly take care of me if I ran into any problems down the road with anything on my car. Would probably cost a pretty penny due to their existing clientele but at least I'd have a fall back.
I'm sorry you are having so many problems in getting something so simple taken care of. Just shows how things are so different in other parts of the country.
