That's what I heard too, 5 year contract.? I heard, I think on this forum, that 2007 was going to be the last of them.
- The original contract was for five model years (2004 - 2008). A total of 20,000 cars where to be built a year, 100,000 total. Roughly 15% of those being sold outside the U.S. Late last winter or early spring there were several car mag articles and news releases that DC renegotiated the contract and slowed/stopped production (do a search, several links to some of the articles were posted here).
I wonder if those 06's and 07's are really that. If there were so many unsold 04's and 05's perhaps they re did the vins? I don't know if they can do that but if they were never titled I have to wonder.
- Your really going way out on a limb with that theory. It would be almost impossible and too costly to change VIN's on the car, engine and transmission etc., and on the paperwork that goes with each car. Not to mention big time fraud.
I wonder if there is any way to find out if Karmann produced any 06's and 07's?
- There have been posts on this forum by Canadian owners saying the '06 was offered in Canada. Post #4 of this thread gives a link to the Canadian DC site which offers the 07's.
I know my 05' which was purchased in July of 05' has a build date of May 2004. Interesting.
- What is so interesting about buying a car in July '05 with a build date of May '04? All that means is the car sat around unsold for well over a year after being built... nothing interesting about that. My car was built as an '04 in June of '03. It sat unsold for six months.
There is nothing unusual about next years models being produced in the current year, it's done all the time.
Geez, talk about conspiracy theories...
