You can cut them to the proper length. Put a nut on it first before cutting. After cutting file off any burrs. When you are done, you can unscrew the nut and it will straighten any bent threads.
The stainless screws are reusable, the aluminum screws are supposed to be one use.
When I did mine, I re-used the aluminum screws because they were in good shape.
