Thanks everybody for spending your time and knowledge answering my question. German (over) engineering always amazes me. They create systems where they're not needed or wanted (as far as I know). I have no idea what this evap unit really does though probably very little. Another example of their over thinking is the security pin in the ignition switch. I recently (had to) removed it with the help of a really detailed youtube video (thanks to the author). Removing the dash parts I actually had hardware left over or screws that did nothing. Anyway, enough ranting and raving. thanks again!
