Why? The FOB should do this. If the FOB is not locking / unlocking the car, you have a number of possible problems.

Can you raise the top as that would prevent theft?

Getting the car back to pristine like new condition may be expensive. I'm looking for an acceptable solution.

This is difficult because there is no know history for the car. How many people have owned it and what have they done to the car ?

I wish I could give you a simple fix, but there are many possibilities: PLEASE read through the info that pertains to your situation. Perhaps you just need to close the top, lock with the button on the console and then exit the car?
