As some of you know, Kim (my wife) is in school to become a Physical Therapist. The first three years have been completed, but the final year is an internship which will require her complete focus. The program is extremely competitive, and each year only 30 applicants are accepted. Kim stands a VERY good chance of getting in this year, and if she does get accepted, it is highly recommended that she quit work to complete the course (she will be spending many hours inside PT facilities, in addition to studies).

Luckily I am blessed with a stable position with good pay/benefits, so we can absorb her forfeiture of a job. Still, it would be wise to "pad the nest" with some extra cash. So, I am looking to gauge interest on the sale of my SRT-6.

Mods are listed in my signature, and I'm looking to sell as-is (no part out). I realize that you never get your investment in modifications back at the point of sale, but I also know the car has plenty of "unique" mods which contribute to the overall package.

Naturally, I'd want to keep my car in the crossfireforum.org family, as each owner of the car was a member here (first owner was Hudoo, in East TN).

It's a low 12-second car as it sits, with lightweight wheels (very close to the OEM design language), fairly new tires, and an interior like no other SRT out there. Mileage as of today is 68,000. Car has been meticulously maintained, and Steve and Anthony can testify to my OCD nature with the beast. Car has seen some racing but not what I would consider frequent track use (2-3 visits to the 1/4-mile strip a season).

I plan on listing the car for $15,000. I believe it will sell near that price, given the right buyer. There is a lot of local interest in the car.

I hate to part with it, but at the same time I have peace about it. Sometimes you have to downsize to pave the way for future growth. The next year will be lean, but there's light at the end of the tunnel. Kim will come out of this season making 200% more than she does now, so it's the right move.

And it's time someone else gets to experience the unique rush only the SRT can provide

Smart man! I don't blame you at all for selling it under those circumstances and I really hope Kim gets accepted at an internship. Maybe your next car will be a GT-R.

The selfish part of me wants to grit my teeth and "tough it out". But at the end of the day, it's just sheet metal and the extra cash would be a blessing during that lean period. The farmer only reaps a harvest if he first sacrifices some seed back to the dirt.

I'm looking at picking up a "very basic" small pickup (4cyl Ranger), and enjoying the "simple" life for a year or so. On the bright side, I will never sweat the door dings anymore.

 

Can you bite the bullet a liitle longer until her program ends? I would be a great celebration and benefit for the all of you. (you..Kim..the car) Im getting all teary just thinking about it!!!

I think you will end up getting another one down the road if you sell, and you will never get one as nice as yours and end up having to mod it back the way you like. Bang for the buck, nothing touches it, especially the 6.

I just remind myself every once in a while when it has sat for a few months how happy I will be in 30+ years to roll it out of the garage and enjoy it. I plan on having many other, faster, more desirable cars but there will always be a spot in my garage and in my heart for the Crossfire, I feel you are not too far off from that

I am typically very financially conservative, but I say, if you can keep it and tough it out, eat some ramen, you will be better off, but if it is something you need to do, obviously everybody understands

You'd be surprised at how far your money will go toward a decent beater if you have cash-in-hand and spend the weekend watching Craigslist like a hawk. Keep this in mind when you go shopping for a replacement.

 

I have a pre dissastered minivan 2002 Dodge. IT is full of door dings,bumper scrapes and dents.

You will still get that Faux MOPAR smell.

I'll trade even and then when you come to your senses, I'll trade it back.

As much as I would LOVE to keep the car, the reality is that we will be losing over $2,000 a month in income by Kim quitting her job. I'd love to say I was well-heeled enough not to notice such an impact, but that isn't the case. Obviously some lifestyle will be trimmed, but even still, that leaves zero margin for error. "Murphy" likes to show up when the reserves run lean...

So, I feel it's the wisest (not the most comfortable) decision to liquidate before disaster strikes, and enjoy the extra cushion, rather than wait UNTIL something calamitous happens, and have a shiny car in the garage. If I'm eating Ramen and driving a car that screams "excess", I'm only fooling myself. There are enough Americans out there putting on the dog... I'd rather eat Pasta-Roni and be honest about the situation.

You definitely have a knack for finding deals... I'm amazed at the bargains you come across. Cash is definitely king

Thanks FP. I wouldn't be going through the motions if I didn't have complete confidence in her. And she appreciates that vote of confidence... she said it was an excellent motivator to succeed. Lord knows I'm blessed to have such a remarkable woman.

 

I am really hating myself right now. That is the second gray one that I would have rather had than the MB....what can you do. You know that car will sell at that price to someone on here...don't jump too soon my friend. Once she is in...then I would consider selling it, if the budget doesn't allow for it. I have 2 young ladies I know who are PT's...and no not that kind of PT's....and they do very well for themselves. If I had your wife for my therapy on the shoulder, I would have healed quicker just seeing her each morning. I know why you are so healthy now...lol. Good luck with whatever you decide. But, if I could, I would certainly buy it...

At the moment, I'm just gauging interest. We will know in mid-April whether or not she gets accepted. Like you said, it would be EXTREMELY tragic to sell if she didn't make the cut.

Last year, out of 340 applicants, she was #31 on the list. They only take 30... it was *THAT* close.

So, not counting the chickens until they've hatched... but I don't want to sit on the nest until the last minute either
