Default Other Colors **CUSTOM** C-R-O-S-S-F-I-R-E photo thread

I know that I can't possibly be the only Crossfire owner here that has done some form of color change. Whether it be dipping the car, wrapping the car or outright painting it........there has to be a few others on here with non-factory colors.

That being said, I noticed a lack of a thread for non-factory colored Crossfires in the sticky section. No love!

My car is originally black, but it's currently dipped a custom Aston Martin green color and it'll likely be getting repainted (not re-dipped, rather an actual paint job......the dip is just temporary) later this summer around August or so. I am wanting to keep it subtle and am considering going with a Benz color. I've got my eye on Northern Lights Violet Metallic. It's a color offered as a special order option for the new CLA's. Looks black until light hits it, and then a bunch of deep purple metallic comes out to play. It's pretty smooth!

Anywho, just tossing around the idea of a sticky for non-factory colored Crossfires so we can play too!

Alright so let me get this started

The car is currently dipped. The color is a dual pearl setup that I have dubbed "Satin Aston Martin Green Pearl". It's only going to be this color for a few more months as I am having the entire car resprayed (not re-dipped) in a few months. I guess you could say that I get bored easily......lol.

Here are a few shots at random angles and in different lighting.

Chrysler had a similar color back in 1994 I saw it on an LHS it was really spectacular. It looked almost black, but when the light hit it at the right angle you could see it was a deep metallic plum color, while other areas on the car looked still blackish but you realized it was actually a deep plum color.
With a black car that is a good respray color as the black will not clash with the new color in the non sprayed areas.

That actually looks very good. I wouldn't have thought a dipped car would look that good. Nice. I like the wheels as well...Nice job.

This really makes me want to consider a dip... Maybe a nice pearlescent blue Beautiful, nice work. Did you do that yourself?

I am not sure of how much the car is lowered exactly. I am on KW v2 coilovers. They are on the lowest possible setting and I have also removed the adjustment ring from the front coilovers and the adjustment collar from the rear coilovers so probably 2.5"-2.75". My fenders have been rolled front and rear. I'll warn anyone looking to go this low though........be prepared for alot of rubbing issues. I'm running a very aggressive setup in the rear and even after the roll and doing some hammering on the fender lips a bit it still rubs on big bumps and under full throttle. I'm still working on a solution for this. The fronts rub pretty bad under full look and the corner where my bumper meets my fender is basically a credit card distance to the edge of the tire so my tires tug on that quite often too. But this is all pretty normal stuff to me having driven a hammered Miata for the last 4 years. Although Miata's are considerably easier to go low with.

The dip ran me $700, although it's less for a more basic color. My color consists ot two "dip pearls" which upped the cost considerably. Most places that dip cars will charge you $500-$600 for a more basic finish. But once you start factoring in pearls, glossifiers, etc etc the cost will go up accordingly.

Wonder if a gloss black dip can be done, and how long something like this lasts?

They have glossifier additives that can be added/mixed into plastidip so I don't see why not. Gloss dips still aren't quite full gloss though. They still have a little bit of a satin finish to them.
