Default Doors not opening fully

Hi Guys and Gals, I wonder if anyone knows an answer to my problem, I am in the UK and have the roadster model 2005, recently I have found a problem when trying to open doors, passenger side more problematic than the drivers door, it seems to half open when using outside door dandle on first attempt, and I have to use 2nd attempt to open the drivers door, it seems to be catching the catch on door pillar, the passenger side is worse and I actually have to open the door from inside, a bit of a pain, any ideas?, Regards Teak

This has nothing to do with the pump that opens the doors as suggested earlier, this is a strictly mechanical problem. I would take of the exterior handle assemblies and see if there is any wear or damage to them. As it appears that the interior handle operates the locks OK when using the cable attached to the interior handle and the exterior handle then the exterior handle itself could be the problem. Failing to find any obvious problem with the exterior handle I think you will then have to remove the interior door panel and see if the latch mechanism needs moving slightly to get it to operate properly, there usually is some adjustment somewhere to allow for manufacturing tolerances.
The handle removal is handled in the Service manual.

I had this problem with my jeep that sat for extended periods of time. What I did was sprayed all the moving parts inside the door with pb blaster and started working the handles all of them were stuck! When I got them all free I sparyed all the moving parts with white lithium grease. Its been 3 years since and the jeeps never given me any more problems.

I just remembered another reason why this trouble with the locks occurs, on older cars with wear in the hinges the door drops a little and the locks catch. You can adjust the catch on the door pillar downward until it clears or fix the hinges.
