Talking DOES THIS QUALIFY AS A STICKY, ha ha

OK getting ready for the carlisle event, and had a state inspection done. Decided to change the thermostat --which is the other posting --and pulled the hood latch. pulled the hood latch. pulled the hood latch. Broke the hood latch! Seems the hood was slammed shut during the inspection and it got STUCK BIG TIME.

The cable and PIN popped out of the handle, put it back and it popped out - repeat - repeat. Got a crecent wrench and pliers and levered the cable strongly to get the hood to open. Checked all and nothing could be seen, pulled the latch and greased it .

Unscrewed the latch ( ***** ) and found the plastic cracked, see photo in gallery.

Decided to reengineer it and so I filled the passages with J B weld for support. Hood opens and latch seems solid like before.

Moral of story, it was stuck and required great tension to open killing the handle. The handle was repaired for the want of 1/2 hours effort and 1/2 hour to pull and replace the latch assy.

If your breaks due to stuck hood latch, this repair is easy and cheap. I feel more confident with the solid handle / latch. Getting it out requires a mirror on the floor to see UP to the single screw, phillips located BESIDE THE RED HANDLE, not the one in front of, toward the driver ).

See posting of the thermostat too.

Enjoy and see ya at carlisle, WDY
