What about a LSD?
I have no idea. I do know I love my Wavetrac. Works perfectly, and never a problem...except I can't add any more HP because I'm at the limits of traction now with the mods and street tire tech. What I'd love to do is add an electric drive to the front wheels to make it a hybrid all wheel drive car.

higher than any crossfire can put out including my V8 at 612HP i am running srt6 driveshaft, axles and diff with ,,,wavetrac ,,,, 647 runs down the drag strip , + 30,000 miles on the street,,, lost one universal joint, when we had the wavetrac built (yes we had it built for us the forum members), Needswings has the wavetrac ,,,unatrac told us it would hold up to 700 to 900 hp, what are your plans as i can supply any diff from 2.89 to 3.46 gears in a diff ready to install no other diff from any car fits the crossfire,,, if you change your sub frame then yes but so much work needed to make one from another mercedes fit is not worth it.
is your car a limited or srt?

Would love to eat some 911s around here.
I don't have a car yet. I will only buy one if the project can be done to my satisfaction.
So doing lots of research now. Driven a coupe cars to have a feeling. Although no SRT6.
I really like the design and most things about the car. I think it's a future classic for sure and those words get thrown around these days for way too many things. If I can I would rather have a sorted manual V8 Crossfire or even a manual supercharged V6 than things like a Z4, 350z or 370Z, newer SLKs and the like. Honestly, if I can get it to drive how I envision it, I will take that over a Corvette, M4, Mercedes coupes, etc too. They are all way more common.

Also, it seems your car is an auto transmission? I need a manual car.
I live in Florida and my car can swim LOL

Based upon the correspondence on this chain, it would probably be a good idea for you to touch base with Johnny Vesatile and discuss expectations associated with this vehicle
Your desire for a cost effective SRT supercharged V8 with manual and a new steering system
and Johnny’s need to fit to folding chairs with good back support and a small bag into a crossfire roadster (and roof down). Both are somewhat unrealistic but hey, who knows what can happen if you put your mind and wallet into it.
What’s required first is to take a step back and assess the cars capabilities and cargo capacity.
These cars have not been assembled since 07/08 just about every aspect of these cars have been discussed here. Perhaps using the search bar and reading previous threads will provide you with the answers you’re after.
However, as you’ve pointed out, your yard is filled with MB product and being in Europe you have an unlimited access to parts. I would encourage you to undertake this as I would really like to see the result of your efforts.
To actually undertake the steering change and engine trans swap will be of keen interest to many of the members.
Many have said mating an SRT Supercharged engine with a manual transmission is impossible. Please prove us all wrong.

I've also been running a research on the German side of things, among R170 owners and crossing reference. The auto trans to manual seem pretty much a dead end. Since more power out of the NA V6 also seems like a difficult task, I see only two options. Buy a NA and live with the 215hp or V8 swap.
I guess for the 215 hp the stock steering is fine. As many have already said it's not a sports car but rather more of a cruiser.
But for the V8, I would want a reworked sports suspension, bigger brakes etc. So I think this would emphasize even more the weakness of the steering.
But like I said, I'm trying to find within the German R170 community if a rack and pinion conversion has ever been done. But so far no luck. I think the main point is, the R170 is just not as special as the Crossfire. Sure, it's a Mercedes. Sure, you can get an AMG. But they were run of the mill affordable (for a Mercedes) mass produced Mercedes. The replacement SLKs are better looking and better cars in every way too and are also affordable. The Crossfire is now rare and there were no replacements. It is a special looking car. But I fear no R170 owner probably feels like their car is special enough to go through the trouble of a steering conversion. Because they have the option to just go buy a R171 instead. Crossfire owners don't have that option.
But maybe I will find somebody who built a track car R170, or somebody who really loves how it looks and went through the trouble. If I do it will probably be in Germany I think. Let's see. If I do end up finding a way, I will definitely share it here. Anything that could make more Crossfires more desirable is a good thing in my book.
