I am guessing you are referring to the cup holder? It is a dangerous spot right above the shifter and you know how that goes if it spills.

When I worked at a MB dealer in the mid-2000's we use to see a lot of R-170 chassis come in with climate control, radio and shifter issues due to moisture/spilling for these "cup holders". Work great for small cups/bottles but when you try to fir your 64oz big gulp or extra tall venti grande soy pumpkin spice mocha latte in there, it is more of a "cup tumbler".

I believe it and I bet none of those issues were covered under warranty! I stick to the wedge cupholders in the passenger seat but rarely drink in my car. Changing out the shifter is not easy compared to the climate control or radio and price wise too.
