This is great, seems extensive, just what I was looking for as a new owner. Thanks for the share.

The first digit is deceiving. It was explained before but I don't recall the reason now. James

The 1st digit of the VIN# code is related to the corporate headquarters, in this case Chrysler, being located in the United States of America. This has no relation to the place of manufacturing of the Crossfire, which is in Germany, at the Karmann factory.

When I used the VIN Decoder on the NHTSA website, it shows the Manufacturer as FCA USA LLC and lists the Assembly Plant as Osnabrueck Assembly, OSNABRUEK, SAXONY, GERMANY

When I used the Vin decoder for my Mercedes CLK most of the info under "Original EPC Decode" came back in some kind of Chinese, Mandarin? I used the google translator to make it readable in English.
Apparently the 2005 CLK 500 was manufactured in the Mercedes plant in Beijing. When the wife returns from work today I will look more closely at the frame mounted label plate

1st digit of Crossfire should have been "W".
