Default Virginia Drivers on HWY 66?

So having spent a week now driving in Virginia in a rented PT Cruiser, I have a question. Whenever I drive on 66, where the speed limit seems to switch randomly between 55 and 60 mph, I notice that most if not every car drives at about 10-15 over the speed limit.

This isn't so strange, but the strange thing is that people do this even though there's Virginia police pulling people over visibly for miles. They'll slow down for about 5 seconds when passing a police car, but then it's business as usual - 65 to 70 mph.

So, why do Virginia drivers on 66 go so fast over the speed limit, even when they know the police are out and hunting??

LOL......I just got back from Falls Church Virginia last night. You're right......Virginians are nuts around the police.

I also find it interesting........people from Virginia complain about our "michigan turn-arounds". I have something to complain about on Virginia roads. Why does a 5 mile trip involve the use of anywhere from 20 to 40 different roads? Just going from Falls Church to Annandale had me on 32 roads and expressways.

I travel 66 at least a couple/few times a week between the Beltway and Route 29. I tend to know where the troopers sit waiting for speeders so for the most part I don't. I just cruise along at about 60 and never (ok, almost never) more. That being said, it's tough because I'm being passed by every other car on the road. But that's ok because at least I look good in my XF!

I was only there for a day and a half. I went to my cousin lucille's 90th birthday party. She was actually a little upset she missed "Work"......she volunteers at the hospital to "help the old people"

She cracks me up.......90 going on 24!

It is a beautiful area though....looks like a great place to own a Crossfire!

I am on HWY 66 a couple of times a month - and in the 4 years that I have been traveling this road - the troopers pretty much stick to the same spots. there are not too many blind spots on this raod and once you get past Manassas the traffic thins out and the road is gorgeous thru the Shenandoahs.

PS - Virginia dropped the "crazy" part of the speeding law, but they still take a dim view of anyone pushing 80 - still considered reckless endangerment - so yup - $3000 and you could go to jail
