Ok well I have a small question since we are talking about the steering wheel.
When I'm sitting at a light, or wherever, and the wheels are pointed straight ahead, if I move the steering wheel side to side, it feels as if there is a little bit of play in it.
Meaning... it feels like for half an inch in either direction, moving the steering wheel does nothing. After that half inch theres a little bit more resistance and it feels like the wheels are turning.
Now I've never had a Benz or any car where moving the steering wheel the smallest amount DID NOT translate into moving the tires. I can move my wheel back and forth about an inch or maybe a little less, and it feels like its doing nothing. Like the steering wheel is a little loose. Other cars I've had, you move the wheel a milimeter, its moving the tires a milimeter. Unnoticable, but still moving them.
Is this normal? I'd like to know if other people noticed the same thing in theirs.
If not, please try it before you say it's something wrong with mine.

Mine does the same. I think it has something to do with the recirculating ball steering, instead of using rack-and-pinion steering.
Fantastic News Fellow Xf's i have found or chrysler found the problem lol
as most of u know i had L.E.D undercar lighting fitted (i did it my self) i forgot that the wires wasent straped away neatly they come from the fuse box into the dashbord straght down to the bottom right where the controll pannel is for the LED'S how ever i thorght there was a problem with my steering rack or somthing but as the sound as i said earlya was nasty so it wasent nothing todo with the sterring but it was the wireing that got wraped around the sterring collom
But having chrysler do a check on the car & that it was an after market MOD i had to pay £54.99 for the hours labour
