Default Magna Flo Exhaust #16633

So my buddy who runs a shop that does all of our lifted trucks and any other accessories that I need for our customers orderd me a Magna Flo Exhaust for my new roadster. How many of yall have this and is it worth it? Does it sound alot better than the factory exhaust, and how do you think it would sound with the factory tips on it?

I have it on my coupe and am very happy. A definate improvement over stock.
I also removed my rear cats and find the sound to be near perfect. Aggressive, and loud under load/accel but reserved at cruise. Very euro sounding, not ricer. The Magnaflow by itself sounds great, but I wanted even more growl and the cat delete accomplished this and removed 75% of the drone that does accompany the MF at around 2k RPM. (in a coupe anyway)
I can't imagine the stock tips would make any audible difference, and the MF tips look pretty good. Purely an asthetic choice.

I wonder how deleting the second cats would affect an emissions test. Normally where I live we dont have them but you never know when that will change.

What "second cat" please ? I thought there was one for each bank in the head pipes and the rest was just pipe and a big muffler in the back.

Would like it to sound more like an early Jag but suspect that is going to require true duals and not a single midpipe.

I thought there were two in the front and two in the rear....I may be wrong. I havent seen underneath the cars in over a year, but thats what I thought when I owned my last one. Anyone want to clarify?

You mean the ones in the picture ? I thought those were resonators since there is no O2 sensor. Why would they need two inline ?

Anyone know what the rear cats are ? I would think after passing through the fronts where the O2 sensors are the charge would be too cool to light them off.

Magnaflows are pretty but suspect the single pipe in the center will muddy the sound. Both the Jag 6 and a Corvair on trombones get their music from true duals. Single pipe sixes just never sound clean IMNSHO. Compare an XK-120 (single pipe) to a XK-150s or later.

May need to build one...

The second set of cats are in the picture above your post with the arrows pointing to them....as for the sound, do a search on you tube. There are some videos of the exhaust on there and in my opinion it sounds pretty good. Better than some of the Hondas that sound like a cow getting raped.

I love the sound of mine with the Magnaflow and I've heard true duals before as well.
There is a slight difference although with true duals it is recommended to have a crossover installed for max sound quality and performance

I used an exhaust hanger removal tool that looks like this:
Exhaust Installation and Removal Tool | AutoZone.com
Also, a cut wire clothes hanger threaded thru the donut helped pull it to the side while I pulled down with the tool. I used a ziptie to hold the two donuts more together when I re-installed. With the Magnaflow, the donut can come loose on one side. The ziptie keeps that from happening.

The rear cats are at the rear of the car just before the chrome tips. I cut mine out and just put in a straight pipe. Changes the sound some, eliminates drone and supposedly adds HP. I make no claims on that but if you have added a CAI logic suggests it likely.

I believe Valk will attest to the sound quality of my NA after this simple and inexpensive mod.

Magnaflow and Borla websites both claim relatively huge HP gains. (20HP) I would be interested in comments from our esteemed friends north of 60' 18" N as well as others about that.

Rear resonators are supposed to stop "popping", at least according to Magnaflow. But I see no reason the square stock tips would change that if added. If all one does is add the magnaflow , or Borla, mufflers and front cats, perhaps retention of the back cats is indicated.

As for me, the occasional "popping" is not an annoyance.

I ended up using a hanger...it worked but only after swearing like a drunken sailor. Anyway, it looks awesome and sounds great too!!

Trenzman - did you find any issue with clearance of the pipe to the lower support brace? I too have an 05 Roadster (Limited, but I doubt that changes anything here) and I need to get it back up on a lift to address a little clearance issue - I get vibrations against the frame when the system is cold, especially at low RPMs.

I also still get the dreaded drone and can't seem to find a way around it.

Yes bob there is the clearance issue with the brace. I have tried to adjust it a few times, I think the hangers need to be adjusted. I may go an easier route and make a quick bracket to clamp to the pipe and the brace to push it away a 1/4 of an inch.

To be fair, this is totally UNSAT from MagnaFlow - interference issues with factory components, half the folks having 'drone' issues... I'd expect more from a big name company like them. I've thought about fabbing up a bracket, or trying to make another hanger to pull it off to the side a bit. I've also thought about just wraping that section with exhaust wrap to see if that supports the pipe enough to keep it from vibrating. If you end up coming up with something good, let me know.

I made a bracket for the Magna flow exhaust it's not beautiful but it works until I can come up with a better idea.

Mine looks NOTHING like that. The bend on mine is what's hitting the cross member, not the split to the muffler. That's really weird.

Kevin...The bend is right behind where the bracket I made is. It should be tha same as yours, the bracket just holds it away about a quarter of an inch, Just enough to stay quiet...and still keep the tips centered.
