Question 2005 Crossfire Roadster has the Check Engine Light with O2 codes

My 2005 Crossfire Roadster has the Check Engine light on but runs great.

· Took to Mercedes Service Shop

· Code showed all 4 Oxygen Sensors active

· Recommended changing right bank upstream and downstream sensors

· Once changed all 4 sensors came back active

· Tech recommended Dealership to replace left bank sensors. If still active it may be the Motor Electronic which they don’t handle. Sensors replaced: 001 540 60 17 79, Sensor and 001 540 50 17 65, Sensor

Since Chrysler dealerships won’t work on Crossfires in Broward County Florida, I have appointment with Mercedes dealership but not hopeful they will work on my car. Any guidance is appreciated…

You will have to provide more info here. What codes were pulled from the ECU before the replacements, and after the replacements? Why did they replace any?

Good question but since I'm not a mechanic I didn't ask. Will call shop in AM and see if I can get the codes. If not, can you rec a scanner so I can get the codes myself? Love the car, runs great and want to keep it even though it's hard getting anyone to service it.

1) ALmost all scanners will read codes, but only advanced ones do live data, etc. I'd recommend the BOSCH 1100, you can get them locally or from Amazon.
Everyone should have one, IMO. The '1100 does limited but useful live data, I've used mine on the car and truck several times and that, with a fuel pressure test kit, I can usually tell what's the trouble with either the Crossfire or Ranger. Case in point, I TOLD the dealer ship what was wrong with my Ranger - and the service guy agreed right away. $903 later, my truck was runnign fine.

2) Your post just PISSES ME OFF. Here we have another shop that can't diagnose a car. Dont' go back there.

ANYONE who tells you to simply replace all the sensors makes me nervous. I know our cars are getting old, but a reading of live data will tell them what the sensors are reporting - if ALL sensors show lean or rich, I'd say the sensors are telling the truth. It takes an ignorant, low-IQ, or lazy mind to conclude that all four sensors are bad, it's more likely they are telling the truth and the throttle body, MAF, MAP or other item has failed. An O2 code does not mean "Change the sensor" in every instance. Codes talking about "heater failure" or "no response from sensor" mean you gotta change the sensor. But "out of range" or "too high" or "too low" can mean the sensor is just doing it's job, it's telling the ECU that something is out of spec. You don't change the sensor until you arrive at the conclusion the sensor is lying.

Back in 2015, I had 101,000 on my car, I was throwing O2 and misfire codes all over the place. I put 12 plugs and 12 plug wires in the car and ALL codes went away. Codes are for diagnostics, codes are NOT DIAGNOSTICS, they are to help a human do the diagnostics.

THread moved as it's not an intro thread, it's a tech help thread. Thread title edited to reflect first post content.

ALSO: Using your email address as a screen name will open you up to one hell of a lot of spammers and scammers - not a big deal, but get ready to keep cleaning out your inbox of emails telling you that some African Prince is sending you a milllion dollars if you give them your credit card numbers!

The Tech wasn't any help on the codes before the replacements, I bought a Bosch 1100 reader. Two codes come up. (1) P2097 - Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Rich, bank 1 and (2) P2098 - Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Lean, bank 2. Should I clear the codes and scan the system again?

Erased the codes. It took four times to clear. Cleared the codes and drove the car twice this afternoon. No "Check Engine" light or codes.
