I have had a couple different FM transmitters for my ipod. Cant remember the brands. I hate them and will never buy one again, i took them both back. They do work w/o wires which is nice, but the sound quality is really not that good at all. My brother connects his i-pod via a tape adapter, it it sounds a million times better. CD quality sound if you will. But for those who don't care much about sound quality, go for it. Just my 2 cents.
This is the same problem I've been having with alot of installs that we have to use an fm modulator for. The problem is, in their quest to simplify things for easier over-the-counter sales the manufacturers have almost all started using "wireless" converters . It's the same converter but they just don't give you an in/out connection for your radio. If there is some sort of thin black antenna wire coming out of the adapter the you could just "hot wire" it to the center pin of the radio's antenna. I've had to do this on several dropdown dvd player installs lately. It seems to bring up the signal noticeably.
The DLO I have also has a line out so you can use it with a tape adapter. Unfortunately there's no tape player or Aux in on a Crossfire.
It fits in the cigarette lighter so it gives the Ipod someplace to be and charges it while you listen. I mostly use the ipod to listen to talk & comedy podcasts so the audio quality isn't a big deal. I'd agree that if you are going to use it for a main source of music you're better off using a hardwired solution.
