Re: How the Jvc KD-LHX550 looks in a x-fire!!!
i have the 500 (discontinued old model; no card slot).
i took the face apart and blocked out the blue volume control lighting -- it looks terrible against the green and red.
quick tip -- you used the RCA outs right? as opposed the speaker outs --

How easy was it to fit and what parts did you need to fit it.
Have found a site selling for £170 here in uk but was wondering how easy it is to fit.
Any help you could give me would be great.
Thanks

The unit is very easy to install. The whole thing can be done in minutes if you have the keys to remove the stock deck and the wiring harness.
the lhx550 has a ton of colors you can change. I changed mine to match the dash lights very closely. Every illuminated button on it is green except the 4 red buttons on the outside edge of the unit.
It has a demo mode which shows some pretty spiffy colors but I grew tired of it pretty quickly.
With this unit you can purchase the jvc ipod accessory that allows you to use the cd changer controls. The net in the passenger leg area is perfect for holding the ipod.

Which wiring harness did you have to use and did you need to use an aerial adaptor.
Sure like the look of it and with the use of SD cards could be a good way
of storing music in the car especially as the cards are available with 2gb memory now.
Does it sound good with the standard speakers or is a change recommended there ??
The unit is available via ebay at -
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JVC-KD-LHX551-...QQcmdZViewItem
and also at
http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_p...artno=KDLHX551
Halfords also do the head unit via the web cheaper than 400 at
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...ctorCatalogId=
Hope this helps

This is the wiring harness, below is Crutchfield's but it's the same thing as the scosche vw01 harness. Crutchfield's comes with instructions for idiots, which is good for me. You will need an antenna adapter.

The speakers sound good. I tried the bass blocker filter mentioned here in the forums for the mids on the door. I suppose that has more to do with preference. I got mine on overstock.com for $240 (american).
The jvc ipod adapter and sirius antenna cost $100 each.
It doesn't do video but it does animations. It comes with a program to make your own custom crap for the display (pics, animations, colors, whatever).

Bummer, I have seen 2 models here in Kuwait that play video, the screen is about the same
anyone tried any of those ?
They play even if your driving, the color is great. they go for about 250KD, about $800US
is that a good local price in the states for something like that?
going home on vacation in august, if its less there Ill get it there

God that looks awesome! I was going crazy looking for a stereo that matches the silver color and not spending $800! -- that looks just great!
How about the previous model? Big difference between the 500 and 550?
I could use the money difference to buy a new digital camera to send you guys the pics.

But the 550 has an SD card slot which is cool if you ask me...pretty much the reason I bought the deck!
