Default Neon / Led Lights

Okay okay okay... I know 99.9% of you are against led/neon lights in your car, especially on a crossfire.

I've made up my mind though, and I would like to put some neon/led lights inside my interior, but only green ones. (I love green so much it really is unbelievable).

Is there any easy way to do this? I would like to have a switch to turn them on/off and they don't even have to dance to the music or anything. (Although that would be a plus).

I was looking at: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-PXY9ds9...T&o=v&g=229550 and it seemed really easy. The lights come with a cigarette adapter and I could live with that, but I want a switch to turn them on/off.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I know practically nothing about cars and how to hook up things, so it'd have to be pretty simple to install. I don't really want to wire wires through to the battery / etc.

Thank you so much!

I just changed out the dome and cargo lamps with LED ones... I got UV purple, but green is available.

I also put a pair of cold cathode tubes under the dash... one on each side. Now those I had to wire in myself, so that would be something to farm out to a good (read: reputable) stereo shop.

See the links in my signature for each site where I bought the items.

Hope that helps...

Thanks for the information!! Although, I can't really use it. You see, being 17, I have to "run" everything by my parents... They surely wouldn't want me installing "tearing up" my new car or doing stuff that isn't "needed" or anything.

I was really looking into the bulbs with the cigarette lighter, those would be perfect... the only thing is I don't know how to install a switch. I've looked but hadn't really had any success.

I had the same idea. With the exception of using the cigar lighter. Here is a link to the instructions and pics.

If you are going to use the cigarette lighter, the wires are going to be noticeable in the first place. So instead of a switch, why not just pull the plug out!

I have a multi-cigarette lighter thing under my seat, the notable wires don't bother me that much. I'd like to have a little switch maybe somewhere near my emergency brake or anything, just to flip them on and off.

After reading your post, having a good laugh because I think it's a really dumb and tacky idea, sorry I started laughing again. Since you don't seem to know much if anything about car electronics I suggest getting a someone at a hotrod shop. We have a company called Hunters Custom Automotive here in TN... sorry I started laughing again... and again...

Thanks for your opinion, to bad I didn't ask for it.

I really love the color green, and I want to somewhat personalize my car. Thanks for criticizing me. I don't know anything about car electronics - you're right. It's not exactly a hobby of mine, and I don't plan for it to be. Different people have different things they like to do.

I'm sure I could do many things that you could never do, and you could do many things that I could never do. What's your point?

I'm really trying hard to hold my temper in right now, why did you feel the need to post if all you were going to do was throw an insult at me?

Nox1s,

Actually, you did ask for it by posting to this forum. If you can't handle responses that disagree with your own perception of reality then I suggest you not post anything more and stick to lurking.

Despite Thriteendog's lack of tact , he makes a very valid point. If you don't know anything about electricity/electronics (and I'm not talking about just plugging-in your ipod) then please have it professionally done, or at least have it done by someone who knows what Ohm's Law is. And no, I'm not busting your chops -- just trying to save you some embarrassment & possibly smoke damage farther down the line.

Sorry, I was laughing at you because you reminded me of an old friend from High School. He had an older Blue impala and he put two neon lights under his back glass and two under the front two seats. The Driver and passenger side had wires running on the floor boards and the back two seats had wires running up to his rear window. Now you'd have to know Petey (my friend) and have seen this car. But all I can imagine is a crossfire with wires exposed running all over the place. Sorry for my lack of tact, it was late and I was tired, but you did ask for my opinion and I gave you my honest suggestion inside of all of that criticism. Anyway, good luck on whichever path you may go down.

You will have to cut the cigarette lighter off. Add some wire and connect the switch on the positive wire side. Then you can reconnect the cigarette lighter piece.

cigarette lighter --- switch --- adapter piece. That is the positive wire. The negative wire does not change.

Do a search on ebay for Crossfire, I guess someone knows that the xfire don't have interior lights, they sell a 4 LED set-up.

Kinda funny, because earlier today I was asking my mom about letting me put neons in the Crossfire I'm getting and she's like "you don't want to ruin such a nice car".

How old are you? I only ask because I sure heck don't ask my mother if I can do anything to my car. Then again I am 31...LOL!

Wow... apart from all the hatred at the beginning of the thread, thanks everyone for their generous offers to help me. That really put a smile on my face and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

I actually did install INTERIOR leds already, green and orange. I think they look really nice, subtle, and perfect for me.

Here's a bad video - maybe i'll take a better one. The orange lights are actually behind my seats, its dark and you can't really tell what's going on.

http://media.putfile.com/interior-streetglow-leds

I'm also playing around with the idea of a multi-color led underbody kit, but since they'd be illegal to drive with them on in michigan and a cop magnet, it almost seems like a waste of money. Also, this forum would hate me for life.
