Is the section behind the seats and the trunk hollow? If so, could you fit a 12" sub in there.

 

Directly behind the seats is a steel bulkhead and behind that is your rear suspension mounts and fuel tank covered by a titanium safety plate. NO, there is no room for a large sub box in there.

There are currently two 'bass' speakers behind the seats in factory mount locations.

Many people have made sub boxes specifically for the hatch cargo/trunk area.

they do make a sub that fits under the passengers' floor mat, it takes up more foot room, but I'm sure it sounds cool.

Yes, completely. Ask HDDP about this. It covers the tank across the rear of the trunk/cargo area. I took mine out once and thought it was aluminum at first, but it wasn't soft at all, I could hardly scratch it.
