key dependant radio station default
ok, i thought i was tripping out for a while but im positive now, stock w/nav radio, when i first start the car it always defaults to 107.5fm which is not one of my 10 preset stations, if i use my other key it defaults to a different station. how do i set the station i would like to be the new default station for each key???
You can find the manual here if you don't have it.https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ad.php?t=13875
There is all that User 1 User 2 stuff in the radio menu (but I thought it only affected the tone etc of the station - or something - damn radio is a complex not great performing piece of equipment) - maybe that has something to do with it.....but I have not a clue.
I was told by a crossfire tech that the radio defaults to a similar station if that station has a stronger signal. some kind of a european feature ? I thought he was full of it till I noticed that mine will change from 95.7 (soft rock) to 93.1 (soft rock) depending what part of the city I'm in. By the way, I wasn't even asking about this, I justed asked if crossfires had any quirks I needed to be aware of, and he told me this. Maybe a mercedes owner could verify this ???

Welcome to the X-ZONE ..............................WHERE ONLY THE MANUAL KNOWS THE ANSWERS TO YOUR MANY QUESTIONS or so we are led to believe................In a land Far Far away across a vast ocean lies our true makers and holders of the knowledge. They have left us to find our own way, HIDs,TVT's ,LED's and CDT from the homeland as well as the history of MB.
Lost, looking for parts in all the wrong places.
Then there is the CROSSFIRE FORUM where many many questions are answered. Sometimes you may have to take some abuse, but there are a few good men.... and women among the old the fat and really really ugly.
I could probably continue, but its past my bedtime and I really need my beauty sleep. Not that I think I am ugly.

For cars I purchase the factory service manual. Great bedside reading if you're a gear head.
I love these forums but quite often there is disinformation that gets spread. And admittedly sometimes the manual is vague or (gasp) incorrect. So no one source always has the "right" answer.
In the case of the question about the radio station. The radio manual says:
4.1.4. RBDS functions
RBDS - General:
This car radio is capable of receiving RBDS signals
(RBDS = Radio Broadcasting Data System) on the
VHF bands. RBDS is a technique for the transmission
of inaudible information in the VHF broadcasting
range. This means that the broadcaster sends
information to be analyzed by the auto radio.
All receivable RBDS stations are displayed with their
RBDS station names.
If all criteria for evaluating RBDS information are not
met, the unit will only display the frequency.
The information transmitted by the stations contains
also alternate frequencies. Alternate frequencies
have the same program content as the set
station.
Using these alternate frequencies, the radio can
conduct an evaluation and constantly tune into the
best-quality frequency with the same program content.
PTY (Program Type):
RDS stations can broadcast the station’s program
type (does not apply to all stations)
Examples of program types:
• NEWS - News service
• SOFT - Soft music
• INFORM - Information programs
• NOSTALGIA - Nostalgia
• SPORTS Sports reports
• JAZZ - Jazz music
• TALK - Talk
• CLASSICAL - Classical
• ROCK - Rock music
• R B - R &B
• CLS ROCK - Classic rock

• NO PTY No program type
Programme type ID (PTY)
The program type of the selected station can be
displayed.
For this purpose, press OPT in FM mode, then
press multifunction button PT.
The selected station’s program type is displayed
for 10 seconds (e.g. SOFT RCK = soft rock
music).
Programme type scan search (PTY)
The radio plays stations with a selectable PTY in
order of ascending frequency for 8 seconds each.
To activate the program type scan search, press
OPT in FM mode, then press multifunction
button PT.
