New JVC KD-LHX550(s) on eBay
New JVC KD-LHX550(s) on eBay
I know that some of us have been searching out this discontinued radio because it looks very "Factory" while offering features and performance beyond the stock units. I bought one from this vendor and it was as advertised...brand new and in the box. After I bought it, the vendor listed another (see link), so perhaps there are a few available.

I installed it this past weekend, following the guide here on the forums by mattpolantz, and it works great, but it may take some time to learn all the features (the instruction manual is about the size of the Crossfire owner's manual!). The volume control is a bit sensitive when wired to the speaker outs. As it has 5V preamp outputs I may try wiring it up to those.

I'm so dumb. I let one of these slip through my fingers on ebay a few weeks ago. I was 2 seconds too late in my bid, and it went for $150 shipped Haven't even seen any of these since then. Good catch guys, they definitely look great and would be worth the $

I just talked to JVC and they haven't tried a larger card to see if it will work. It may or may not recognize it.

i do not think it will accept it because anything over 2gb is now in the new "SDHC" (secure digital high capacity) format. which, unless it is setup to receive SDHC it cannot read them and there is no firmware update (at least for the SD slot on my XPS laptop) as of yet.

If you go with a Blaupunkt it's a direct clip in no wire harness or antenna adapter, If you Look at the mp66 or mp56 they hava a digital tuner and decoder, meaning no more static on stations. Just an Idea, they are a factory deck for alot of german cars, I believe the mp46 is the deck they use for porsche

No VW harness with wire swap required? No special antennae cable?
I'm in that delicate zone of trying to find the right head unit...information like this would be good to know.
Re: New JVC KD-LHX550(s) on eBay
The wiring clip on the Blaupunkt recievers have the same wire pinout as the ones used by the Crossfire, porsche, Mercedes, and many other German manufacturers. Plus the antenna is a fiberoptic type plug like on the crossfire, not the normal one found on mostly all north amarican cars.
If you have a limited crossfire (I'm not sure with base) with the amp you will find it will only use the front speakers on the new deck. If you are using a different type of aftermarket deck you can purchase a harness from any of the more specialized shops for around $20 a (you will have to swap the Red and Yellow wire on the harness these are switched power and constant power) and the adapter for the antenna can run the same up to about $50, you do not need the boosted one that some volkswagons use.
Hope this helps

Then why wouldn't I get a different brand and use the harness in order to use all the speakers?
Re: New JVC KD-LHX550(s) on eBay
It would be the same problem, from the factory the car is only wired to use the fronts, but they run it through an amp and seperate the speakers at that point , I personally wish the car was wired differently from the factory. I have a pioneer deck in my car and with just using the factory harness and adapter you use the two front speakers and the factory amp controls the rear 6 1/2 subs. if you want to use the rears seperate you will have to completly rewire the rear speakers.
Re: New JVC KD-LHX550(s) on eBay
I justed snagged one of these units, and it is on its way. For those of you that have this unit, does it support/have the J-Bus technology? I would like to get the JVC bluetooth module too, but that requires the J-Bus connector on the head unit. What about modules for Sirius?
Thanks in advance,
Mark
