The blaupunkt St. Louis has many possible colors, including multiple greens and reds which are compatible.

This is what I plan on using.
That is if I can get the guts to take it from new in the box status to used status.

I'm going to install this unit: http://www.clarionworld.co.uk/stock/dxz658rmp.asp

It's not in production anymore, I've bought a 2nd hand unit off eBay that the seller claims to be in perfect condition. I'll let everyone know how it looks.

I'm looking at this unit. Anyone have any information. It is an Innovetek IN-435B. Seems way too cheap for the features, which are:
-CAR In-dash DVD with 4.3" Wide TFT Colour LCD Screen
-Bluetooth with built-in microphone on the front panel
-One touch button to answer a phone call through your car speaker.
-Play directly your music on your cellphone via bluetooth.

-
DVD/DVD-R+/DIVX/VCD/MP3/WMA/MP4/CD-RW Compatible
-Built-in 4.3" High Resolution Digital TFT LCD color monitor
-Motorized Detachable Slide Down Front Panel
-Selectable view angle

-Built-in TV TUNER ( USA NTSC PAL M, N / Europe PAL I, BK, BG )
-USA/Europe Frequency Switch
-Support USB Drive for direct playback

-AUX-IN Video & Audio on the panel
-
Cable include to connect your IPod via AUX-IN

-4X50 W Max. Mosfet Amplifier
-AM/FM-MPX 2 Band Radio
-PLL Synthetized tuner
-Auto Store/Preset Scan
-30 Station Memory
-Picture Control: Brightness/Contrast/Colour/Tint/Reflection Size
-On screen display title, time, chapter, subtitle & angle
-Treble/Bass/Balance/Fader/Volume control
-Dolby Digital Coaxial outputs
-ALL Region DVD Playback
-PAL/NTSC Color system ( DVD Playback )
-Anti-Shock mechanism
-ESP ( Electronic Shock Protection )
-LO/DX & ST/MO selector
-Repeat/Intro/Random
-Clock Function
- Mute Control
-RCA Line Out
-Preset EQ
-SUB-Woofer Line Out
-A/V input & A/V output
-Rear Camera Parking input
-ISO Connector
-Remote Control

Any feedback on the unit (pun intended). I don't know the company, and the price is under $250. Probably crap, huh?

Yeesh! Why do so many of these units have to be so gawdy and God-awful?!

garlum, yours looks pretty good with that green lighting. I also liked the (discontinued) Clarion with the buttons radiating out from the centre - but I still want to play CDs (I'm old, I guess...)

A little follow up on this thread. Vegas I wish I had some info on your question but I don't.
The Alpine units I've seen all have blue and/or red screens, no green. I have mine set on blue. The trim rings on the Marine versions are a good deal lighter in color than the silver dash trim in our cars. All trim rings can be painted so that should almost become a non issue any longer. Also it would seem that my Alpine does not have an on/off function unless you unlatch the face plate. That makes the keyless operation unavailable so if you are looking for keyless operation like the stock radio make sure your replacement unit has an on/off switch.

I know this souds crazy, but has anyone thought about the TRIM RING around the head unit?
I got the Blaupunkt melbourne which has a silver face, but it has a black trim ring to it. There are others with silver trim rings that would better match the console.
just my thoughts...

That's what we are talking about. The Trim ring seems to be a big hang up because most of the aftermarket manufacturers are making the units with dark/black trim rings. All you gotta do is paint it to match.

The Alpine iDA-X100 hooks up real well with the I-pod, that's the unit I put in my Xfire. Mine didn't use the trim ring, just pulled the stock unit out, wired up the new wire harness, and plugged into place. Then they came out with the Marine unit, I'll use it for the wife's Roadster so it'll match her dash.
Here is a pic of mine in the dash. I liked it better after I did the dash kit, the black actually blended better than the stock or Marine unit would have.

I'm looking at the Clarion M309. Comparable with the Alpine X100M. Has anyone seen one in person?

I have 2 Alpine HUs. 1 is a double din touch screen (IVA-W505) in my daily driver, and the other one is a X100M in the Crossfire. The thing I like about the Alpines, is that they were designed to be an iPod HU. The Clarion seems to include iPod functionality as an afterthought. I like the way the Alpine displays the iTunes album artwork on the display. Everyone has different needs and likes, but the Alpine HUs fit me well as my primary source for music (and movies/podcasts in the IVA-W505) is my 120GB iPod Classic or my 32GB iPod Touch.
