Default Just got car yesterday, now planning system

Hey everyone just got my crossfire yesterday and love it. It's an 05 base coupe.

I am looking to put Infinity Kappa components in the door panels, and I am thinking about trying to put two Kicker CompVT 08CVT654's behind the seats where the stock subs/speakers go in the fancier model Crossfires. I would power these with a Rockford Fosgate Punch P300-1.

Does anybody see anything wrong with this plan? Conversely, would it sound good? I am past the point in my life where I need booming bass audible for miles, but I would like the bass to be strong enough to sound good while inside the car.

I haven't picked a head unit yet.

Thanks for input

That's what I did with mine and I am very happy. Not going to shake the neighbor's windows, but nice tight bass. You'll have to use about a 1/2" spacer ring as the factory pseudo-subs mount at an angle and the magnet on the Kickers won't fit in that way.

I have a pair on 2 channels of a Crossfire Audio XP6004 amp and a pair of Crossfire components in the doors on the other 2 channels and it's as loud as you would want and sounds great. Good plan.

Are the factory holes down closer to the floor board or are they more towards the top, behind the headrest?

About halfway, you can feel them.. they are fairly close to the doors.

Yes, behind the seat. No need to cut anything, but you will need to use about a 1/2" spacer ring since the magnet on the Kickers is larger than the factory subs and won't sit at an angle as they do. They are 6.5" subs, low profile series.

These work great in my roadster and sound awesome. They can handle a good deal of power.

Kicker's space-saving CompVT subwoofers combine outstanding power handling with the ability to fit in your vehicle's tight spots. These extra-shallow speakers combine extended cone excursion and a slender frame, without sacrificing sound quality or bass impact.
Kicker's 08CVT654 6.5" sub handles up to a hefty 150 watts RMS, while requiring less than 3 inches of mounting depth. The rigid, injection-molded polypropylene cone provides excellent definition and depth, while the ribbed Santoprene™ rubber surround helps control cone movement for accurate response. Perimeter venting on the stamped-steel basket keeps the sub cool under pressure.

This super-slim sub works in free-air applications, so you can install them in car doors, rear decks, and other places too tight for normal subs. This versatile subwoofer also works in a sealed box, so you can build your own custom enclosure. A unique design lets you mount the CompVT sub directly against the back wall of an enclosure while allowing for excursion clearance. Use your imagination — this Kicker CompVT sub lets you put well-rounded bass in almost any vehicle or boat.

I assume I would have to cut a hole in the carpet covering the speaker holes?

Yes, sorry. You will of course need to cut a hole in the carpet. Kicker also doesn't make a grille for these subs, but they are in a very protected location and the seat comes nowhere near to touching them, so it's really not an issue.

Just cut yourself a set. It's just a ring to sit under the rim of the speaker. I used ABS plastic, but MDF would be fine too.

You can purchase them, but I always have just made my own.

What is the minimum power you would recommend sending to these subs? I would ideally like to power these off the rear channel amps of a decent after market head unit (25W/channel range).

I don't think I would run them that lean...they do like quite a bit of power...

Ok - one last question. I'm a tall driver and I use every inch of space I can in the car. With the seats interfere with the speaker movement with the seat all the way back against the back wall?

FWIW I am running 800 watts now on my third system in the four months I've owned the car, lol.

500 of that is going to my sub. It's a beautiful sound.

50w off a head unit, which isn't even really a good clean 50 watts, would not sound good going to subs.

Did you ever install the Kickers behind the seat? If so how did you do it?
I'm trying to do the same.
Brian.

this is one of the first things I plan on adding to my 07 base coupe.

since the kickers need a spacer, does anyone know of any aftermarket subs that fit perfectly in the stock location?
