Default Best H/U for USB plug-in??

I have been cruising Crutchfield for H/U's. I love how I can look at reviews from customers, but it seems that I always find something there that scares me away from buying that unit. Anyone have a H/U with USB port that has been good to them? I Have a Zune, not Ipod, so all these "Ipod ready" units dont help me any. Was looking at the Alpine iDA-X303 ( http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500IDAX...3.html?tp=5684) But the reviews are horrible for it.

Also, off topic but do base coupes still have the mounting holes of the sub that is installed in Limited's? (Basically, could someone mount a small sub in the same place if they wanted?)

Default Re: Best H/U for USB plug-in??

I fairly recently installed a Baupunkt St. Louis in my limited coupe. It comes with a cable to plug in a USB (which attaches to the rear and can be routed out to the passenger compartment) as well as an SD card slot on the front. The SD card is limited to 2 gb, but is nice if you want to download some music that's not on your USB. The USB, to my knowledge, is not limited in size--I attached a 16 gb. You toggle between the USB, sd card and tuner on the HU.

I have not used it enough to be sure, but I like to play all my music on a shuffle pattern, which is supposed to be an option. However, I'm not sure it works out that way. Maybe I just haven't set it properly, but it seems to keep reverting to shuffling music within folders. A possible reason is that the documentation mentions folder names being limited to 16 characters, and some of my are longer. I will probably rename the longer ones and reload the flash drive.

One other thing I am not crazy about is that the volume of the tunes will sometimes change quite a bit. I have Mediamonkey on my computer, which does a great job of leveling the mp3 files, and I loaded the music onto the USB drive from the computer, but it still doesn't keep everything on an even a keel as I would like. I don't know whether an Ipod would do any better (I don't have one either).
