Default New 7" DVD Player with iPod Connection under $400!

Has anyone run across a nice head unit for the Xfire that has a 7" Touchscreen Display with DVD and an Ipod/iPhone wire for under $400? I have seen some on Crutchfield that were made by Dual and Valor, but I have never heard of either of those companies. It also sounds as if there is some extra hardware needed to attach the iPod/iPhone. I want to make sure that the HU will have the iPod controls on it as well as charges the iPod.

I am not terribly concerned with all of the other bells and whistles (Bluetooth, AUX, USB, NAV, HD, SAT, etc.) at this point. I mainly want to use my HU for playing DVD's and playing my iPod and the radio.

Also, can you play the DVD's/Videos while the car is in motion or is there some type of kill switch installed to disable this for safety?

Thanks for any help.

Anyone else have a DVD player deal that they are proud of? It would be great to find one that matches the silver on the dash already.

Crutchfield is giving me these installation instructions when I add one of their radios to the shopping cart.

Are these steps really necessary?
What you need to know:
  • The harness does not supply connections for the front speakers, so you will need to run new speaker wires to your front speakers.
  • The harness does not supply connections for the rear speakers, so you will need to run new speaker wires to your rear speakers.
  • When used in this vehicle, the functions of the yellow and red wires in the Crutchfield harness are reversed. The yellow wire supplies ignition power, and the Red wire supplies constant power.
  • You will need to bypass your factory amp by running new speaker wires from the radio to the amp location and splicing the new speaker wires to the factory speaker wires at the output side of the amp.
  • If you replace your factory radio, you will need to use an aftermarket amplifier with a low-pass crossover to retain the factory subwoofers.

I didnt re-wire anything, my adaptor fit perfect with the car. Just attached the wires and it worked fine...

The harness doesnt attach to the DVD player, it connects to the cars original harness. It comes with a paper telling you exactly what wires connect to run the deck perfectly.

ie.

Once you connect the harness you buy to the harness in the car, you connect speaker rear right with with the rear right speaker on the deck.

everything should fall into place

make sense?

Sorry for the double post but here is a link to the harness.
http://www.yourhotcar.com/product/li...iring_Harness/

*** Note - I only paid 16.99 for the harness and 19.99 for the antenna adaptor!!!

dont pay 159.00!!

check with your local installer!

lol P.P.S., one of the install places stated that it was $690.00 to install the DVD player! Such a scam, I did it myself in about 1 1/2 hours for under 40bux!!

Check my gallery, it is an older unit (like from 2003?), but the silver is a perfect match.

Kenwood KVT-815. It also comes as a Kenwood KVT-715 but doesn't have a few features the 815 has.. also compatible with navigation

Number 1 is incorrect - purchase the VW-01B harness plug.
Number 2 is correct - for NEW rear speakers - your existing "rear" speakers (the subs in the wall behind the seats) are wired to the "front" channel so will work subject to number 1
Number 3 is correct
Number 4 is incorrect.

I like Crutchfield - for looking up products and finding out what the list price is, and what I will need for the install (sometimes they're right). But they sell most things at list price.

For that you get customer support for life? Sorry, I saved almost $400 on my head unit alone by shopping at another online site known for books... In total I saved $2K by not buying at Crutchfield. Fact is, the manufacturer will give you customer support for life so Crutchfield support is kind of redundant.

I have nothing against them - bought my Beltronics Driver STi from them because no authorized dealer discounts them and Crutchfield was a dollar cheaper on shipping....

The harness plug is $14; the removal tool is $3, the antenna adapter (if needed) is $20, and the head unit comes with detailed installation instructions. So save the huge price difference, buy the harness plug, install tool, and put the savings into another component you can stash inside the floor or dash.

Sorry that's a little hard to follow and could be misleading.

The wires on the harness plug bought for this purpose connect to the wires on the new head unit harness. They're color coded but make sure the colors on the new head unit really mean the same thing as the colors on the harness - see my web site.

That gives you a head unit with a plug.

That makes it possible for the new head unit to plug into the harness plug in car. This enables unplugging new head unit from the car without unwiring.

It's a lot easier to connect the wires on the new plug to the wires on the head unit sitting at a table with good lighting, than crouched next to the car with the head unit flopping around on the console or seat while you connect the wires.

The rear leads that come out of the new head unit should not be connected to the new harness plug - instead these can be left available for wires going to new rear speakers.

You could put connectors on the rear speaker wires coming out of the head unit to make it easier to remove the head unit, again so you don't have to unwire.
