Do a search on eBay using "Radio Removal Tool Kit". You'll find several sites with complete kits typically covering M-B, Audi, Ford, & VW. Prices varies; just look around until you see something promising. I got a complete set for about $20 shipped to my house. Probably could have found something similar around town if I had looked.

I purchased a radio from crutchfield.com and they gave me the Euro Antenna Adapter, Wiring Harness, and Radio Removal Tools. Yes it is the standard Mercedes radio removal tool.

 

Here is a new problem the left side key catches and the right side just slides in and out and will not catch anything.
What now? try a diiferent set?

I just pulled my stock radio, as part of a center console bezel replacement.

Went with the Wal-Mart key-kit, $5 and change. Was on one of the pegs, with all radio connectors, etc., near the car radios and speakers in WM, in a small clamshell. At my store it was hidden by an improperly hung item, so short term panic 'till I found it.

The two keys are inserted with the curved-parts of the end toward the center, and the flat sides out. They are pushed in, past the resistances, until the finger rings almost touch the face plate. Then the radio pulled out easily. Two connectors, and you're done.

Releasing the keys requires pushing hard with a thumb on the little metal spring/levers, on each side of the radio, inward toward the tips of the keys.

 

Thanks for the additional detail on use of the keys and radio removal. I just bought an 05 radio from a wrecked XFire. Got it for $75, so not bad. Appears to be in good shape. My 04 radio works fine but it it one of the original LED units which are hard to read in daylight. The newer 04 and 05's had the LCD units -- so I said what the heck, if I could find a decent one for a good price, I'd make the switch.

Anyway, one quick question. When inserting the radio, is it just push in and play? Are there any issues with programming? Codes, etc. My Pontiac unit, if removed, needs a code........... so if it's stolen it won't work. I'm hoping these are plug and play. Thanks for any additional info on this.

 

Mine didn't require a code, and somewhat amazingly didn't loose its programming (stations, etc.) after being out for a few days. Hope yours works well.

 

I see other have discvered that WalMart carries the keys.
