This morning my radio in my car is going on and off. So I just turned it off and waited about 20 min and turned it back on and it worked fine. Does anyone know what may be the cause of it going on and off? Its a stock radio.

My bet is the battery is showing signs of taking a dive. OTOH, these radios have been a bit funky on their own. BTW, had the car in for service saturday, and they tested all the power and the batt and alternator are all strong. That's good news on the 5 yo batt, but sooner or later it won't.

 

I would find the fuse for the radio and check that its a tight secure fit.

Also test it for continuity, and any concerns, just change it.

I don't think it's your battery, cause if it was weak or damaged enough to turn off the radio, I seriously doubt it would turn the car over to start. But for peace of mind, it never hurts to load test the battery periodically.

Auto Zone or Advanced will do it for free.

You might also want to yank the radio at some point, and check the power wires/harness, and ground connections, for a secure tight fit...

 

Mine did that. Works OK now (not as good as other radios, but OK) and I did nothing. I do not know why it did this.
