I'll start off with nothing but negativity:

I need two cameras, one mounted to the right rear corner and one in the center. The right rear since it seems that invariably a monstrous pick-up or SUV is parked next to me when I'm backing out. The only thing I can do (and have to imagine that this goes for everyone else here) is back out really slowly and pause as my car eventually sticks out behind the monster. Then ever so slowly continue backing out.

The theory is that if there is someone coming from my right side they'll realize I'm blind in that corner. So far it has worked, but I want to be able to back out normally.

I'd also like one for straight back, but the right rear corner is the most important.

And while I'm not looking forward to hiding the wire, from what I've read that is the best solution to not having vertical lines on the image.

I do not want to drill anything in the interior, especially into the dash. I want a decent sized image but not a huge mirror - though that seems to be the best solution.

Not a clue how two back-up cameras could be made to work.

I do not want the back-up cameras on at all times, only in reverse.

I won't say that cost is no object, but I'll definitely pop a decent amount if I can get what I want.

 

Here is my thoughts. Ditch the Factory deck keep it in a box somewhere, b/c by todays standards everything on that deck is a total turd. Then I would install a fold out screen deck, Most come with at least the one option of video in that is activated by going into reverse. Now how you would get both cameras to populate both images on screen at the same time would be your biggest issue.

I have found at least 20 differnet decks that do at least the one camera for easily under $250. and again even the cheap chinese decks are light years ahead of the factory system. Once I get my funds up I am planning to at least go w/ the Kenwood Marine deck b/c it has Bluetooth, matches the car, and can play most Mp3 media. But if I had my druthers I would get a folder w/ all those features, then add backup camera and some sort of Phone interface.

 

Moltenburn, I have a Clarion VZ09 I've never used. However, I believe Clarion uses their proprietary connectors. However it is set-up to accept a back-up camera.

There is such a mess of wires in the rear of the unit, it scares the pee-pee out of me. I know there is a special connector to get and to switch a few wires and in theory the aftermarket head unit is good to go.

If I'm correct, I'm doubting if there will be a cable that has the Clairon connector and one that is compatible with the camera.

I just took a look and figured if I could get a really good 170 degree camera, I'm guessing that below the right back-up light on the bumper would be a good place to start. Obviously I'd make sure it was working, then tape it in various positions to see if I can get both the three quarter right rear and much of the rear with one camera.

I doubt much if I could do it, but wonder if using an exterior switch, I could then switch back and forth if I mounted another camera on the opposite corner. I gather there are generally three wires on the cameras, so it seems possible.
