Just got my 2007 base model I inherited and did a bunch of searching with no luck. I know the base model doesn't have the rear speakers and I want to add subs in, but does the base model have the housings installed with no speakers or are there no housings back there?

Seems to me there is only a hole stamped out in the bulkhead. I cannot believe MB would install parts there that will never be used. Are their sub 'covers' installed? If not, feel the rug panel for the hole. If (and I doubt it) the covers are there, pop one off (quite a few posts detailing how, do a search) and check. Good luck!

Yeah, I was searching about it tonight at work hoping for a quick answer and starting thinking about digging around in it when I get home. I think they all have the grills as people talked about not feeling anything in base cars in old posts. What's behind there is what I couldn't nail down.

 

The fuel tank is behind the bulkhead, be careful if drilling mounting holes

 

I wasn't planning on drilling new holes. Just wanted to know if I need to source the sub housings from an Infinity system or not to install subs.

 

Just wanted to make you aware about the fuel tank. If your base model has the mounting holes you may be able to find the mounting baskets, speakers, and grilles for the rear subs on Ebay or https://www.car-part.com/. There is a kit to Ebay to replace the speaker surrounds which usually have disintegrated.
