Default New head unit radio sub help.

Ok I am working on a new headunit for my xfire.

I want more sub control.
I am looking at a head unit with a sub. pre out, and sub control
Can I just get a two channel amp and hook it up, running the sub pre out to it then running the powered wires directly to the factory subs, Of course I will need to disconnect the wires from the facctory amp to the subs.
I hope I am making sence, It is hard to type what I am trying to say.
What amp should I get?
Any better suggestions? That won't cost tons of $$$
Thanks

You should be able to divert the sub wiring at the factory amp under the passenger foot plate. The subs have (2) two ohm voice coils per, if I remember right. so if you wire each woofer in series then parallel the left and right you would end up with a single two ohm load that would be acceptable to alot of monobloc amps nowadays. Make sure your amp is capable of a two ohm "mono" load. this diagram should help: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum/...ead.php?t=9057

Thanks ben you rock!!!

I am actually waiting for the pioneer avic-z1 to release.
I converted the dash to a double din, moved the switched to the center a/c vent.
I'll post some pics soon.
I just don't like the flip up displays.

Should I just get a 4 ch. amp and replace the factory one all together?
Thanks for yours help.

By going to a larger four channel amp and bridging two channels for your bass and running the other two stereo it would keep things simpler - but if you are like me and pretty much run it wide-open all the time it may not give you that much more volume: a simple rule of thumb with amplification is, if all other parameters remain the same and you just double the available power then you will net an increase of 3 decibels. 3db is just over the minimum threshold that human hearing can hear a difference - you see where I'm going ? Now if you keep the stock amp on the top end and run a separate big mono amp on the bottom then two things will be influenced ... The top-end will be able to run much cleaner because the common power supply will no longer have to perform double duty of running all the output devices - just the ones running high frequency. The new monobloc has it's own power supply that won't effect the signal reaching the mids and tweeters - so you can run the bottom end really hard (distorted) before you will even hear it. If I can I always try to split up the power supplies feeding the top and bottom for these reasons.

Thanks again, this makes sense. I'm going to give it a try.
Now I just need to get a hold of a pioneer avic-z1.
The wait is killing me, I was told mid april by pioneer.
I just need to find out who is getting them so I can order one.
