Default Eastern Ontario GTG

Hi all –
How does Oct. 1st look to you? I’d like to put an Eastern Ontario cruise together & have a couple of options in mind. If the members west of Kingston take Hwy 7 to Sharbot Lake, I can meet everyone at the Esso Station there. We can then travel some backroads to Westport & over to Newboro for lunch & some unique shopping – a good restaurant & great little country type store – it’s one of my wife’s favourites and I’m sure that the other ladies will enjoy it as well. We can then backtrack a little to Westport & head south to Kingston. Down to the Bath Rd. & along the lake to the Glenora Ferry where we’d cross to Picton in the county. We can hit the Lake on the Mountain for a quick coffee, then head back through the County to Trenton where those west of Belleville can take the road of their choice home at the end of the day

2) Reverse the trip. We can all meet at a Tim Horton’s in Brighton & head down into the county. There’s a couple of spots for lunch in the area – informally in Picton or more formally there is a restaurant at Lake on the Mountain (Lake on the Mountain isn’t really much to see). We could then head towards Kingston from there via the Glenora Ferry, and then people can decide whether they want to continue on up to Westport etc. or pick up the 401 & head back.

I’m looking at a night in a hotel no matter what, so I can be flexible. If others also want to overnight it, then we can plan for a couple of days.
We should have some fall foliage by then, though, so the backroads north of Kingston would be starting to look pretty.
Let me know your thoughts – can go, can’t go, option 1 or 2, 1 day or two. Most votes win.
Thanks
John

John,
Not sure if you are aware but this is the same weekend as the 2011 Fall Tail of the Dragon. A lot of forum members from SOCO are already attending this one.

ps Westport is beautifil. I have a brother just west of there near Tischbourne.

OOOOhhhhhh - that makes it tough. The weekend after is Thanksgiving - not likely a good time either, due to family obligations. The problem is time - we want to do this while we still have weather on our side.
Maybe those who can't do the tail will be able to come to this? Or if the consensus is to do this on another weekend, let me know.

Hi – here’s the plan
1) 10 a.m. Meet & Greet & Coffee - Trenton Holiday Inn parking lot - off the 401
2) 10:30 a.m. head to Sandbanks Winery
3) 12:30 p.m. Lunch in Picton – Acoustic Grill (Where the music is acoustic but the burgers rock) & Bean Counter for gelato desert
4) Lake of the Mountain – quick stop - pictures
5) Glenora Ferry – then biggest part of the drive to work our way over to finish in Westport. Back roads –Camden East, Harrowsmith, Sydenham & up the Perth Road to Westport for relaxation, shopping in a great boutique, and whatever else tickles your fancy.
The weather forecast is somewhat cool with isolated showers everywhere on the cruise, so the top may have to be up, but that’s only a minor thing.
See you there!

A little blustery but no rain. Not quite top down weather. We had a nice time, though. Less driving and more socializing at Sandbanks Winery and then for a great lunch at The Acoustic Grill, "Where the Music is Acoustic but the Burgers Rock". Sight seeing at Lake on the Mountain, and then on our separate ways home. New friends - Sandra & Glenn, Chris & Sandy from Belleville, and of course Mario & Shelley - All great people. A good time was had by all.

I'm happy. It was a great time, and with more notice on a weekend that didn't compete with the Dragon more may have came. But there are also some eastern Ontario xfires that we don't know about yet, and we'll grow the group over time as well.
I'd like to do a big one in the spring - maybe around the May long weekend that will involve some great roads and some terrific evening entertainment. It would require a couple of nights out - do you think that it will go over?

John....great job. An excellent start to the E.O.C.O Chapter of S.O.C.O.
I would be interested in a early spring event but weather could be a big factor for those that have to travel far.

Have you considered starting a E.O.C.O. registry to see if you can lure more locals to sign up at the forum?

I think you are thinking of going south of the border, right? If so, the adarondacks region has real nice roads to travel on. Lake placid could be a strategic stop. Another could be to drive all the way to the top of White face. If its not on the way to where you were thinking, this could be a seperate cruise all together

There is some terrific driving throughout that area. This past summer Suzanne & I went south into NH from Quebec City and then west through to Stowe Vermont & into NY state to come home via Ogdensburg/Prescott. What a great drive - backroads all the way. If you set something up, I'll do my best to be there. And there are some forum members from the US side of the border that we may be able to entice to be there as well.
That isn't exactly what I'm thinking about, though. I'm looking into a couple of things with planning before I can ask who may be interested or exactly when to go. I'll post under a separate thread as soon as I have some more info.
