Sports Car run for TAPS
TAPS is an organization that helps the families and children of US Military that were lkilled in Iraq. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in helping me organize a charity run to bennefit this group. I'd like to do it in the Northeast states in August and limit the event to 2 seat sports cars with possible inclusion of certain 4 seaters (Mustangs, Camaro's etc. If there is an interest please contact me thru this forum or direct at Bruce Dora 2 Gilmour St Norwich CT 06360.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Before I forget TAPS web page is TAPS.org. The show can take several formats, one or several states, rally to site, etc.I've worked on several 100-150 car car shows and many motorcycle runs. And there are so many styles of runs and shows.
What I have in mind is Strictly cars considered sport of any year. Although I prefer 2 seater it leaves out alot of would be participants and audiences. Sport I mean 2 seaters and 4 such as Datsun Z's American muscle etc not Caravan Sport vans, or something a compant added an extra mirror and trim and calls sport.
The biggest challenge usually is finding a location large enought to hold a potential 5-900 car show that would be willing to donate a weekend and finding an insurance company willing to give a rider for the weekend. Multiple sites would of course be better but finding the hosts is not easy. Food music tee shirts etc vendors are generally easy to find. If anyone has any connections with those that have authority in fairgrounds, downsized miltary bases, colleges, casinos, drag strips, large driveins, malls, large lots, etc please let me know. I would like to try for a late August or 1-2 weekends after Labor Day date. I AM 100% OPEN TO ANY AND ALL IDEAS. THE MISSION IS THE IMPORTANT PART. I want to keep this in New England/Eastern NY/Eastern PA and Northern NJ easy traveling area say within 150 miles of Worcester Mass if possible. There are many car clubs in this area and easy access tfrom all the states.
One thing that's a shame (and I ride a noisy Harley) is bike runs for charities are common and popular. It is not as common with sports cars.
Again my email is bruce_j_dora@snet.net feel free to contact me with any and all ideas esp on a location. Also anytype of connections with sponsors. I DO NOT WISH ANY FINANCIAL GAIN FROM THIS ANYTHING OVER COSTS WILL GO TO TAPS.
