Default 2012 Euro Auto Festival

The 17th Annual Euro Auto Festival will be held the weekend of OCT 19-21 this year. The car show site will once again be the BMW Manufacturing plant located in Upstate SC. This year's featured marque will be Mercedes-Benz. (Note: This will be a 1st time for M-B! Audi has never been a featured marque either! Extremely rare for BMW to allow a primary competitor to be recognized as the featured marque for this show which is hosted on their property. ) Mark your calendars as this weekend event is something to experience.

BMW site in Upstate SC is the only manufacuring plant that produces the SAV X3 model. Vehicles made there are shipped to all global markets. And BMW just announced today that the X4 (new model) will also be produced at this site.

Check out the coverage of last year's Euro Auto Festival in the February 9th issue of European Car Magazine. Take note in the 1st paragraph of the article. Specific mention of Chrysler Crossfire & its heritage in-the-day of Daimler-Chrysler. (We got more coverage than the Spridgets - a featured marque last year!)

European Car Magazine - 2011 Euro Auto Festival

Mark your calendars for this year's event!

Dennis keep this "bumped". I'll try to free up my schedule to attend this event (weather permitted).

This is truly a great auto event in our area. And it's gaining more notice as a premier event in the USA. There are actually some "concours" quality autos displayed every year on the BMW plant grounds. And the 5 driving events conducted at BMW's nearby performance center, with BMW supplying the vehicles, is something every one ought to experience. Hope you can make it this year.

Starting some work for a client in Hagerstown, MD around mid-March. Probably will be spending 2-3 weeks in the area every month. Maybe we can get together sometime.

Later,

I attended this event in 2009 along with 8 or 9 members. We had six Crossfires there and we all had a great weekend. The number and quality of the cars displayed were amazing. You will see examples of all the euro brands and some true collectors.gems. Great food and plenty of interesting things to see. We generated a lot of interest in the Crossfires and had to educate many folks on the car and why we were there. Especially from one Porshe owner who came back 3 or 4 times to ask questions about power and performance.

The ralley run was great fun 2 to 3 hours and it took us into the mountains with some spirited driving with a great spread of food when we got back. There was also an Auto cross event. I have had a work coflict each year since 2009 but I am hoping to make it back this year.

This would be an excellent opportunity to combine a GTG with this great event. It would be well worth a drive in for the week end. Wouldn't it be awsome to have 20 or more beautiful Crossfires lined up on the grass grounds among the OTHER elite euro brands. I hope to see you there.

Later,

Thanks Dennis and keep me posted. Hagerstown is 1.5 hours away but it'll be worth the trip for lunch or dinner with you.

"EURO" as in European cars only; if it wears an American brand label, or comes from Japan, Israel or Sri Lanka, sorry, not welcome here. There was one partially inexplicable exception to that rule, as there were a couple of Chrysler Crossfires in this year's show, bending the rules a bit in deference of that's car's strong German content and connection to the days of DaimlerChrysler. In spite of its edgy bodywork, the Crossfire is essentially a first generation Mercedes-Benz SLK underneath.

The criteria for attending this car show is that the car has to be of European origin. Since the Crossfire was assembled at the Karmann plant in Osnabruck, Germany for Diamler-Chrysler, it meets the criteria for attending the car show. I also participated in this show back when I owned Merkur XR4Ti's. They were also assembled in the Karmann plant back in the mid-to-late 1980's.

Mercedes is the featured marque for this year's event. Sort of a big deal since it will be the first time BMW has allowed a major primary sales competitor be the featured marque at the show.

Bump

Attached is the registration form for the weekend event. Worth mentioning that Dennis Gage will be the guest speaker at the banquet. He's bringing his Speed TV filming crew and plans to tape a segment for his show. Crossfires on Speed TV? You really ought to attend this event!

Registered our 2007 XFire Limited Coupe yesterday using the online registration process. Cost me $35 to participate. Lots of different activities to sign up for if you haven't been to the event before. Probably will be helping direct incoming show traffic to their respective showfield locations.

if you're considering attending this event, I'd suggest getting your registration completed. BMW does limit the showfield to about 400 cars. Does miss out because you submiited your registration late. Event is only 5 weeks away!

Couldn't find my notes from earlier events. Used to be if 6 or more cars pre-registered, the Car Show awarded 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place. Don't remember how the event pared the awards down with less than 6 cars pre-registered.

Turns out the awards criteria is listed on the Event Schedule Webpage.

1-2 Cars = No Awards for Marque
3-4 Cars = 1st Place for Marque
5-6 Cars = 1st & 2nd Place for Marque
7 Cars Plus = 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place for Marque

Hard to believe that we can't get 7 XFire Owners to register & attend!

Bump - See comments below from Barry Harms, Euro Auto Festival Event Chairperson this year.

"Speed TV will be here as well as Hemming’s Sports & Exotic Car magazine. You may recall that Hemming’s did a number of feature articles on our attendees."

Possibility that XFire Owners get some press coverage! This year's event is going to be very good!
