Default Egged!

My car got egged last night! Luckily it was raining and washed it off. There are now chips and marks on my hood and rear quarter. My front bumper is riddled with chips and dents from rocks flying up from the local garbage truck company. I am going to write to the trucking company and complain. They are required to wash debris off the truck before they go on the road. Should I file a vandalism claim with my insurance company for the egging? Is it worth it? My car looks like it has at least 4 years worth of damage and i only have 14k miles on it. It is a mess. I can't stand mean and irresponsible people who don't give a crap about anyone else! My last car had no chips or rock marks and I had over 50k miles on it! AHHH rant...

brent245, first off let me say,"I feel your pain." I hate it when somebody messes with any of my cars. It's a real sign of a true coward and who doesn't have the gut's to come out in the open and stand up to anyone.
As for any dents that may have been caused by the creeps, they can usually be taken care of by a paintless dent removal company. It's not cheap, but it's worth it not to have any paint work done to your car unless it's absolutely necessary. Check with your insurance co. but I don't believe vandalism will make your rates go up. Hope you don't have too high of a deductible. Good Luck

As fireamx+ stated ... i too feel your pain... i bought my XF 1 week before halloween... and guess what? halloween= eggs = messy crossfire for me!!!

on halloween i drove thru higher income areas and i got egged... i drove thru lower income areas... not a single egg... back into the richer neighborhoods... and more eggs... i couldn't believe that day!!! My wife was upset as well... she is the one usually trying to calm me down so i wouldn't chase down these guys... but not that day! she wanted to jump out of the car to chase them as well!!!

but that's when i told her...

"honey... in this world there are players and haters... those people egging us are haters... jealous... and losers... 12 eggs hit the crossfire!!! "

and maybe you may want to keep a bra on the front to minimize the chips... i have one but don't use it...

you are not alone... i too have plenty of chips but plan on compounding the areas hoping to blend most of them in... and its really not worth going crazy over/raising blood pressure and all that...

I look at it this way now:
i would rather have a chipped XF than no XF.

Thumbs up Re: Egged!

I managed to keep my Roadster Limited spotless in NY, moved here to Virginia and pick up trucks and SUV's are taking pot shots at it. Just the other day at the Supermarket, a lady is parked next to me with a new G35 Sedan. As I came out of the store, she put her groceries and baby car seat on the hood of my XF. I politely asked her to remove the stuff off of my car and if there is a scratch she is going to have a problem she is not ready for. She told me I had to wait and "when she is ready she will move them", needless to say I knocked her groceries to the ground and threw her car seat across the parking lot. Now there is a three inch scratch on my hood, she calls the police. The Police come and I show them the scratch, mind you my wife was in the car and video taped the whole incident. The officer looked at the video and cited here for vandalism and must now appear in Court. She tried to work things out with me after the Police left, I calmly told her to kiss my A$$, and I will see you in Court.

I'm surprised she would act this way when you ask her nicely to remove the crap from the hood of your car... the nerve of some people...

thank god u got a video of the whole thing -- these type of people deserve to be punished since most of the time they'll easily get away with it due to lack of evidence...

Mind uploading the video?

Smile Re: Egged!

I have never been egged where I live. But I will tell you there is nothing worse then the people who dent your car in a parking lot. At work I park as far from other people as I can. I don't care if I have to walk a ways to get inside.
I got the Xfire last year and so far I have lucky and have gotten no dents, I only hope to be as lucky this year.

My wife calls the XF the exercise car because I always park way out in no-mans land, of course if the weather is bad I drop her off at the front of the building if I can.

Good morning LTD... hahaha that woman will ROT especially with that video... wow i can't imagine what would have transpired if that was here in NY...

In re: to NY, what would you suggest to keep a XF spotless in NY... NYC.

The XF, for now, is still being parked on the street overnight.
of the 100 miles per day that i drive,13 of it is from 87 (major Deagan) south... along that ruddy highway... getting off at fordham road east to the grand concourse... the concourse is like taking a ride on the moon... ruts craters... holes... down to yankee stadium (still going south).

Back onto the Deagan briefly to 138 st exit... west... over the steel bridge crossing the east river... and now... on the roads of Harlem... that DOT seems to neglect in terms of keeping filling and repairing holes...

South for a bit down (and UP! as lexington ave has hills at some points... manhattan is not flat as many people believe) lexington ave...
At e96 street i have a choice to enter the FDR or continue south on York depending on traffic... either route is rough... however the FDR is faster but does have more treacherous ruts...

1st official stop for the day... the UN.
Where the car gets checked and sniffed (dogs) for a bomb... in and under the UN is still not kind to the XF as their roads within to get to the parking area maintained poorly as well... PARKED under the UN... the car is shut off and the dust and grime and grit from this CAVE settles onto the car...

And remember, this is still mile 13 for the day!!! at 11:00 am i get back into the XF to ride about manhattan... brooklyn (the worst NYC roads bar none) and queens to complete the rest of my 87 miles scheduled for the day...

Although i would love to keep my XF mint, i can't! Its more of a road car for me... if it was a show car (which i would love) i would go so crazy over this chip this scratch...etc.

My only solution is to get another XF and keep that off the road. hehehe

Take care

josh

A couple of years back someone oiled (cooking oil) and floured my car, of course when I tried to wash it off I made dough. My car was completely covered.

Six months ago we went to the mall in my '05 Titan. Had it four months. Came out and $1,000.00 of damage to the rear passenger fender.

I try to do the same thing, but it always seems that no matter how far away I park there will always be some jalopy parked right next to me when I get back.

XF1... If this happened in NY and I was in a "New York" state of mind, I would ask you to drive my XF past the "Tombs" so I could get a glimpse of her now and then. Here in VA you can carry a gun or rifle in your car, she should be thankful I wasn't a drunk "Red Neck".

Have you tried or entertained the idea of under body protection film...or Clear Bra. I am very, very **** about keeping my car clean right now I have about 7-9 coats of wax on the car, this seems to help a bit.

P.S.

ALL NY roadways are one big perpetual pot hole. And are always under perpetual construction...this is the one thing I do not miss about NY.

LTD
under coating... i will do... especially now the snows have stopped and now i can get this car cleaned up nice... i do have a chrysler bra which i got from the dealer (major World/queens) but i really dislike how it looks.
yeah, i think it was andrew who discussed the clear bra at some point too...

WAX... hmmm not having a garage yettt... although soon, i haven't waxed the XF since i got her... i go to a DIY carwash... and spray wax on the XF... but i can't count those... within 2 weeks... i will get the XF professionally buffed...etc... then i will maintain it from that point... start to build up my layers as well...

thanks for the suggestions
take care...

j

i am behind the TOMBS at least once a week... those ITALIAN RESTAURANTS by the park...

CrossfireLTD,

I have moved a lot, (12 times) my first move was from NY State to Tennessee, Wow was I surprised in the culture change. I look back on this and accept it as a positive, it kind of rounded me out, even though it took about 3 years. I lived there for almost 8 years and developed some awesome friendships, and to this day they are one of the best, just like favorite family.

I had no patience I was always getting frustrated by the speed of the south, but today I am OK in a traffic jam, it is OK if people show up a little late.

I love the northern spirit but I also appreciate the southern comfort.

Cool Re: Egged!

I have a deep fondness for the "southern hospitality", and the people here on a day to day basis are GREAT and I have developed a few GREAT friendships. I don't think it is really a North or South issue, my Father always told me that "no matter where you go or what you do...there is always going to be one A#$@*le". The supermarket incident would not have been an issue but for putting the car seat on the hood of my car. She could have easily walked around her car and put the seat on the opposite side to load her groceries, put it on her OWN hood, or just used her trunk. I guess inconsideration knows no geographical boundaries, also I guess its hard to find custom made or perfect people and situations in an off the rack world.
