I have to say I haven't got any great interest in replacing my grille but have been intrigued by this thread since it started. Anyway, out of curiosity I actually went into the local Bentley showroom this lunchtime to see why it should be so difficult to make a Crossfire version of a Bentley grille. When I asked if could take some pictures of the grilles I think they must have thought I was some sort of strange grille fetishist and just let me get on with it!
As you can see they are not really mesh at all. But irrespective of what type of 'mesh' is used, I don't see why a Crossfire version could not be fabricated with the same type of polished metal surround, apart from the tooling costs that is.

Awesome, do you see how thick that surround is. It looks substantial, its easily a couple of inches thick at the base.

I was told that Bentley grill is actually plastic. I had a 1988 bentley and it was metal but now was informed they are plastic. I have that same grill (minus the center bar) on my 300C.

I had a close look at the Bentley grilles and judging by the construction and feel I am pretty sure they are heavily chromed injection molded plastic; very high quality chromed plastic, but plastic nonetheless.

This is not meant to sway anybody, just my thoughts on possible look of the grill.

Hope this helps some of you visualize.
Thanks for your work. I think this demonstrates what many of us have been saying all along. Grill at the front, good. Grill behind a big surround, bad. No fiberglass, no paint, just a big grin of high quality chrome mesh. They had the lower mesh right. They should have done that for the upper grill as well.

Hi Tino

Great to hear you are willing to do another prototype. I think most people will prefer the mesh grill version however since you have done most of the hard work on the "pontiac" style prototype No.1 it would still be interesting to see it mounted on vehicle. (If not much additional work).

Tis nice to have options.

Regards, Adam

I agree, judging from the number of views this thread has gotten I'd say people are interested. Since the R&D is already done we would love to see it. Thanks CTD.

Thanks for the photo shop concepts, I now see that the grill will look very "ricer". Or 300c ish everybody in So cal seems to be putting those grills on their rides.

Please take my name off the group list to buy. I prefer the white painted grill I saw on the other thread.

I'm on the edge and thinking of fabricating my own custom grille. For now the alabaster grille mod is O.K. but still looking for the heavy woven mesh (chrome or painted) with chrome frame.
I'm sure once we see the finished prototypes many forum members will want to get on "the list". As for me, I'm still hangin in there.
