Default tire wear

I have nearly 11,000 miles on my '05 Crossfire. I recently picked up a nail & was able to repair the tire. The service rep said I could expect to get around 20,000 miles on the tires (stock michelins). He said they looked like tires with 60,000 + miles. They still appear new to me. Can anyone give me their experience on tire wear. I understand new tires are in the $350.00 + range.

Still trying to figure that one out?!?!?!

Buy yourself a tread depth gauge for a couple of bucks and check them periodically. That will give the best indication of life expectancy. There are just too many variables on tread life with the differences in the way people drive.

I am new to the XF and I would imagine that it can be pretty hard on tyres. I have had a couple of cars that have had Michelin Pilot Sports and they are a great tyre and do tend to wear well. I would guess that for me on other cars, 15-20K miles would be typical when driven reasonably hard. I suspect the tyres on my XF will not last as long as the big grin on my face while i'm driving it!

I have 27.5k miles on my PS2's. They still have 7/32 front and 6/32 rear tread left. I'll easily break 30k -32k before it's time to replace them... it all depends on your driving habits.

I just ordered new tires and will have them installed later this week. I have 19K on my Crossfire, and the original Conti's are shot. Not too surprising I suppose given that I drive mountains roads to works (gotta love those corners in this car!). Anyway, after checking with several sources (NOT including the dealer), I found that the Continentals are about the softest rubber, and have the lowest tread life rating of just about all choices. From what I've been told, their strong point is low noise and comfy ride...neither of which I care too much about with my xfire sports car. So I'm going to try a set of BFG G-Force KDW's. I've been warned that they will be louder, but the tread life rating is almost double, and even though they're not cheap, they are a lot less than the Continentals.
