Kind of a newbie question... about the gas pedal.
Okay guys... this is kind of an embarrassing question but i'd like to know the answer.
When I push my gas pedal down, I noticed that you can push it down, and then push a little harder and it seems like you're pushing a "button" with the pedal.
What exactly does this do? I noticed that it went a little faster but i'm sure that's just because the gas pedal was pushed down.
Can anyone give me an answer?

I'm assuming your car is an automatic? I've heard that on the automatics once the pedal is pressed down to a certain level, it will activate a switch that will tell the tranny to drop down to the lowest gear possible to get max acceleration. I haven't experienced anything like this with my six-speed manual.

It's called a kick-down switch and it does exactly what golfdude describes. Only cars with automatic transmissions have them.
On the Srt-6 we refer to it as the warp speed button!!!
