Default Ride Of The Month (vote Test)

I'm just testing to see if the software will prevent multiple votes from the same member... Can you all try to vote a few times and then post how many times you voted and what letter you voted for ?

I voted for C. When I get home I'll try to vote again since I'll be on a different computer.

Only was able to vote once "D". Second time I tried it took my right to the results.

Once; voted F, but you should make the votes private so people don't know who voted for who. That should be another option when finishing up the poll.

EDIT:
Second option when submitting the poll.
Make votes public: Displays all users who voted, and what choice they voted for.
I guess we could make a poll on if it should be public or private but I think it would eliminate people knowing or advertising their ride to win. Just less of a hassle IMO if the votes were private.

Well this is promising... How can we prevent someone from creating multiple screen names and voting a few times ?

Should we start this thing with only members who have been registered since 2006 ? This would prevent someone from fudging the votes ?

Your opinions are valued...

Good point, didn't really think of it that way or wouldn't think someone would actually create an account to vote for themselves.

I just checked the private poll and the creator cannot see the votes so that eliminates that problem. Keep the polls public and check usernames of all the votes and see when registration occurred.

How about must have been an "active" member for at least 6 months to vote ?
That may cut down on extra screen names just to vote.

I think we can tell by the amount of posts a member has (which is easy to check, just by clicking on the name) and how much they contribute to the forum, but I don't think you can punish a lurker who may not contribute but yet gain info.

I think if the votes are really really close, like by 5 votes then I think unknown names need to be checked. If it's a runaway Ride of the Month (which most contests are) then I don't think it needs to be checked.

Also, administrators can check the amount of created usernames in the admin logs in the Admin Control Panel if "prizes" are involved.

Good idea... But there have been some newbies on the forum that joined near January 1st and we would hate to exclude them... So, how about making the cut-off date "TO BE A VOTER" January 1, 2007... But anyone who joined at any date, can submit their car and have other members vote on it, but they cannot vote for the ROTM until they have been active for 3 months... This should make it somewhat fair for the NEWBIES and might prevent "STACKING THE CARDS" with multiple screen names...

The other problem with this polling software is that it only allows 10 options... So there can only be ten people per month, which really isn't fair if more people want to submit their car...

WE have to really figure this out to make it fair... HELP ! MY FELLOW MODERATORS...

WHOA !!! I said I would TRY to figure out some way to benefit the winner... Don't put me into some corner like was promised on this forum before... It will take me a few weeks to figure that out, before I have an answer... but as far as this goes for now, we're only doing this for fun and the mutual recognition of the forum members who submit their Crossfire...

Now, how do we start this out with only 10 options for the submission ?

I just saw this on another forum. They had a ROTM section in which those who wanted to participate for that month created a thread/poll (yea or nea) to describe their car, provide pictures and have users comment on the car. Then the most popular ones (i.e, the ones with most votes) made it into the final ROTM poll and members would vote. This would only pertain if there were more than 10 entrants obviously, but a thread still should be made regardless to show off the car.

Keep in mind the first few months will probably see the most amount of activity for ROTM, not saying that a member can only enter once since cars evolve over time but rather people should take time and consider what they are entering and submit their ride when they think it's ready.

Also, since parts aren't quite available for our cars, it's going to take some creativity to win. Maybe a nice shot of the car in a certain place or a nice spread of your car in creative pictures even though it might be in stock form, just not pictures from the driveway.

Just throwing out some more ideas.

The key word in the sentence was "if" prizes were involved not "are" involved.

I'll check to see if you can mod the maximum poll choices.
