Default VIN translation

Does anyone know the difference in a 5 series and 6 series roadster or coupe for that matter? This is the 6th digit in the Vin according to the manual. Where is the paint color code located and does anyone know where to go for the translation? Is there a site you can go to for this info?

~ here is the link for a bmw vin decoder: http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi

~ the paint code can be found on the core support, drivers side strut housing or drivers door jamb... depending on the type of bmw.

~ this is one of my favorite bmw sites: http://www.roadfly.com/bmw/forums/

hope this helps!

Thanks Andrew but BMW data does not cross reference Crossfire. Your attempt to answer is appreciated.

i guess when you said 5 series and 6 series, you meant BMW, because that's what they are called. do you mean 2005 and 2006 series?

Heh, I assumed the same. I too was going to google for BMW VIN decoders, and then ask the OP why this was in the Crossfire forum. :P

Anyone know what an A in the fourth position (instead of a K) means?

None of the VIN decoders I've seen mentions the possibility of an A, but on my '04 coupe it's an A.

The attachment contains the vin chart from the 2004 parts cd. You will notice that the assembly plant in position 11 is incorrect.

Thank you for the info.

This makes sense, but I wonder why the service manual shows a K for the same SRS sytem configuration.

Maybe it's a German thing.

Oddly enough, my SRT-6 has an 'A' instead of a 'K'. Gotta love the Germans.
